Jewellery - best place to buy
« on: July 18, 2007, 01:21:53 PM »
Hi All
I will be looking to buy my wife a new ring whilst away (yellow gold diamond eternity)
can anyone advise a good jewelers to go to, either in Kalkan or nearby?
Do they sell gold by weight, how can I ensure that I will not be ripped off?
If i remember from previous trips to Turkey, the jewellers always gave the hard sell and it was the done thing to barter hard. For most things I can have a "fair price" in my head but have no clue with gold.
 Any tips much appreciated.
Thanks All

2 weeks tomorrow ..... and counting.

i'm like you when it comes to gold etc....i know how much a beer costs etc etc!! but gold, i'm clueless...however my other half and my mother in law always swear by Infinity Jewellers(kalkan),i try and distract them while we walk past by talking but i get ignored!! i usually leave them to it and go sit in a bar for an hour while the bartering and "Wittering" takes place;D...good luck and i hope it's not to painful....should you need sustenance Merkez cafe is close by!!!
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

Hi Bluefudge.
the Turkish jewelers do sell their gold by weight, so don't think that you will get ripped off!

Might see you in Kalkan, going out for a month on the 29th July, like you i am counting the days down, ready for some hot sunshine.

Happy Holidays!!!

Some of the best advice I've seen on the site Blue Lizard - I can relate to the "wittering", the attempts to walk past and the being ignored!  I too often find myself drawn to a bar to seek refuge -
So, like your post, it should be compulsory that any shopping posts are accompanied by directions to the nearest bar for those who would rather opt out!
I'll give Infinity a try, thanks  :)

Begonvil
Thanks for the advice - A whole month, lucky you,  may see you there.

Cheers

Whilst on the subject, has anyone been to the Fethiye Gold Centre? Any opinions, worth a visit or a thumbs down?

Glad you asked that Joan... all the times we have driven past it we kept wondering what it was like..... never seems to be many cars there though.

Infinity is where I'd go - without a doubt.  Nothing is too much trouble & no pressure to buy.

Definitely Infinity jewellers.  Sedat or Yardan will look after you with no pressure at all.  The other good thing is if you wish to trade it in for a better one in a few years you'll get the same money you paid for it against a new one!

As Sally & Charlie have rightly pointed out, Infinity Jewellers are very good people and don''t pressure you into buying.  The only ring they had that my wife was interested in came in at £18,500 and so as you can all imagine that was a BIG NO NO from me !!!!!!  We went to Fethiye for the market, we went on the 8am bus.  Got out of the market at around 11am and decided to visit our first jeweller in Hisaronu, this is Pinara Gold(opposite Oz Gold), a family run establishment.  Before you ask, yes, a purchase was made but it didn''t hurt the Bank balance too much !!      Les

HI Blue Fudge
We''ve just returned from Kalkan and my husband bought me the most beautiful ring I could imagine from Infinity for my birthday.  Admittedly I chose it, but the whole "shopping experience" was so easy.  I''m not normally a jewellery person but I couldn''t resist this one.  One thing that was a pleasant surprise was that each ring had a price tag on which they immediately ignored and dropped the price.  I''ve had it valued since I''ve been home and the price I''ve had to insure it for is a lot more than my husband paid for it.

Hi Jinfiz
We went to Fethiye where I bought my wife a ring (Infinity didn''t have what she liked) - We couldn''t have asked for better service. The ring was adjusted while we waited and all our rings had a free polish. we negotiated a great price too.

Bought Mrs Brooksie a piece of jewellery from Infinity the other week and it was great value. The staff in there are very knowledgeable and genuinely nice people. I hate shopping normally but don''t mind going into Infinity even though I come out weighing less!
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

I have a real thing about jewellery and whilst we were in Kalkan earlier in the year we were recommended to a shop called Infinity.  The jewellery is fantastic and if they haven''t got what you are looking for they will happily make it for you, without obligation, in about 48 hours.  Prices were amazing too, quality fantastic and very helpful staff.  Definitely worth a visit.!!!

I agree, Infinity is great and Sedat is very helpful. My friends husband bought her a ring in August and it has been valued for much more in Uk.

Do you think Infinity will be open in February?
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

Turkeyfan we were there last Easter (April) and they weren''t open.......just had to wait and go back in July!  I think February is probably a no no but I''m sure someone living in Kalkan will let you know for sure.
