Food opinions please
« on: August 29, 2011, 04:31:10 PM »
Ok guys.....gals....who do you think does the best Fillet in Pepper Sauce (not from a packet) and who knows where there is a restaurant that does plain seafood ie. not in sauces, such as things like crab, prawn, lobster, etc (and don't tell me FRANCE). Never been to the Korsan but people say its great.

For the best fillet steak - Mussakka, either in town or on the harbour, without a doubt!

Recommendations on here a couple of months ago were saying Zulu, but having had one there last month I wouldn't recommend it.
I really enjoyed both the fillet steak and the pepper sauce at Marina Restaurant (next to Pirat Hotel) and also at Adam's Restaurant (lovely family, views, and atmosphere, together with a free pick-up and drop off).

Cheers.......I have had excellent steaks in loads of the restaurants especially coast and  marina. I had an excellent steak on the roof at Nar but the sauce was from a packet. I mentioned it and they said they would try making them fresh. Not been since so don't know whether they have changed or not. The one I had in the marina (on the corner)was spot on. Thanks Eniste I will go and take a look at Ali's fish place. We love fish and shellfish cooked anyway but just plain chilled crab and lobster with a crisp white wine is just great (for my birthday). We will be trying some different restaurants this year from the forums recommendations but will have to go to some of our favourites.

Have you tried Fez?  Great steak with homemade rose pepper sauce.  The steak rolled with fig and walnut was excellent too.  We had both and both cooked really well.

The best pepper steak is definitely at The Nar! A lovely terrace and great service...and the steak is a must or the Chicken Sarma

cheers Spritzer.........did you have your steak this year? Was it a fresh sauce or from a packet. If its fresh, I will try it again shortly. But steak rolled in figs and walnuts does sound goood.

Forgot to say. Had the marble steak in Coast....its was beautiful..........the desserts are good there too. Might take a fire extinguisher though, as we had the Misty bonfire as well, all adds to the fun

My friends and I enjoyed wonderful steaks at Saffron - the two who had the chateau briand said it was the best steak they'd had in many years and my plain steak was just perfect.  Sorry - can't vouch for any pepper sauce but I'd bet anything it wouldn't come out of a packet!

I came back from Kalkan on the 27th Aug. It was our first visit and it will not be the last.
We had lunch and dinner at a number of very nice place but can suggest the following.
Fener Cafe (harbour) great salads, Bade Beach (opp Fener cafe) lovely homemade chips . Seaport was wonderful, went for my wedding anniversary, Omar Shariff (owner) was truly wonderful and could not do enough to make the night enjoyable. Parc Kalkan was very nice but slow service.
Overall a fabulous place to go and meet the locals and eat some delicious food, but use the taxis!
