ADA FISH RESTAURANT
« on: June 07, 2012, 05:36:21 PM »
As an avid reader of all the restaurant reviews, I am surprised that this simple little place hasn't yet featured!
On the Kas road just beyond Kaputas right on the coast with amazing views.
We go every year for at least one lunch, I dont really think it would be a night time place as it really is basic but for a great fish lunch when you are not dressed up, nor do you need to be it is a real chill.

When you arrive the owner comes out to greet you and show you to one of 6 outside tables (some are partially shaded). One of his sleeping dogs will raise its head to look at you and then drop it just as quickly and nod off again. He may have to shoo a chicken off the terrace and on the way in we were once surrounded  by a herd of goats his wife was moving from one side of the road to the other, on a bend.

You then have to find a simple wooden chair that has  4 legs nearly the same length ( I dont think there is one ). The same goes for the tables but hey.......

There is no menu and he will bring you a stainless steel plate with a selection of freshly caught fish. You have what he has caught and after the Sea Bass, Sea Bream we have fun as does he working out what is what. We love Yellow Eye, the owners name for it. He weighs it and tells you the price. It is not cheap, but the simple surroundings and eccentric nature of the place make it worth while. The only thing to go with your fish is a mixed salad and /or chips plus the usual huge quantities of bread.

As you gaze out across the water with chicks and goats foraging below you you may have the inevitable cat visit you before it too collapses in a heat induced sleep under the bouganvillea. Bliss.

We have only had Efes and water. I dont even know if there is a wine list.

Its all very simple, very chilled out and not at all obtrusive. Its also very hot outside in the afternoon as the sun reflects off the half finished whitewashed walls.

Stay as long as you like, theres never a rush for your table, your fellow diners, if any will usually be non Brits. After the bill he escorts you back to your car and every time you pass  after your visit peep your horn and he will remember you.

Its an alternative for lunch to consider.,

Sounds wonderful....but concerned it could be a little hot at the beginning of July when we are there? Is this the restaurant owned by the family who run the Moby Dick boats?

I eat there 4 years ago with my Mum and 2 of my sisters....we had a truly wonderful afternoon...So pleased reading your report iyiislamlar to hear not one single thing has changed, how refreashing  ;D

When we were there we had fish, salad, chips etc, but also asked for garlic bread...the owner did not have a glue what we were asking for so took us into the kitchen where we found bread, garlic and a grill and made our own, the owner, watched and laughed all the time we were making it....  8) ;) 8)

Well worth a vist, if not just because its so very different, dare I say....Turkish  8) ??? 8)

PS : if you ask him, he also has a newspaper / mag cutting showing his/the restaurant featured in..... 'Lonely Planet'  how cool :o :o :o
Latest weather report...... Large outbreaks of Efes followed by intermitent spells of vodka and tonic ;-))

Babs, sorry I dont know but we get the impression it is a "one off" enterprise, but Turkey being Turkey he could be the second son of his uncles best friends boss at work on a Saturday during his part time job as a waiter on the Harbour, unless he of course is taking us all on boat trips !!.
I forgot to say it is probably the only restaurant we have visited where we havent nearly bought a villa, but we will be there shortly so I better keep quiet.

We usually visit Mustafa at Ada for dinner a few times a year, yes it's very basic but the fish, salad and chips are great, it's worth an evening visit as the sunsets are glorious.

They are a very lovely family, the place is very popular with Turkish visitors too which is always a good recommendation.  2 of the sons have the Moby Dick boats in the harbour, & a day out with them is very special
