a bit of a "balls up" !

having just purchased some chicken i noticed something interesting in the chiller cabinet. i said to mr nice turkish butcher "in england we call them sweetbreads (the thymus gland from the heart)  he looked confused and said "i will check" he went out the back to speak to someone and on his return he shouted across the shop "in turkey we call them sheep bollocks" i bought them any way as oh likes offal but i was quite bemused as there three of them not two! he also asked if i was sure i wanted them before he gently removed them from the sacs. beats tesco anyday lol!

Ha ha ha ha  love it Samson. It appears that it's not just us in the UK that think sweetbreads are testicles!!!
Just out of interest, how did you cook them? I can't even get automan to try liver, never mind sweetbreads!

i dusted them lightly in seasoned flour and pan fried them. OH had them with fried bread , eggs, and a couple of lambs kidneys. it was an "all day breakfast" but it did not stop him having lunch. i give up!

We used to eat lots of offal when I was a kid. Sheep's head, brains, chitterlings. My mum used to make brawn using a pig's head.
