Well, after years of only eating Turkish breakfasts in turkey as I absolutely love them, I made Menemen for the first time last night for supper!! I have to say that it was absolutely fantastic and thankfully OH agreed. I used an "authentic" Turkish recipe, but never having experienced it in turkey, I have nothing to compare it with.
I'm definitely going to try it this year in Kalkan and forgo a Turkish breakfast but just need to know which restaurant/lokanta serves the best Menemen.
Thanks ( mouth drooling in anticipation ) Lizzie. ;D

Merkez cafe does lovely Menemen :)

Thanks itstime, I shall try it there for sure. :)

Cafe Leon has it on their menu, didn't try it but if it's like everything else there it'll be good!

Thanks Nicky. We must try cafe Leon this holiday, it doesn't matter how many times we go to Kalkan, there is always somewhere new for us to try. It's like having a different holiday every year to the most fantastic place on earth. I can't ever imagine getting fed up!!! :)

IMO the best Menemen is to be found in Fotos. 1st place I had it in 1998 and as I dont eat breakfast often have it for lunch.
Fotos do it differently to most as the eggs are poached with the tomato mixture surrounding in a clay dish. Best of both worlds as you get to dip your bread in the egg lol

Thanks yorkilovit, funnily enough, I've had Menemen today at chillies, it was delicious. I would love to try foto's too, sounds different :)

Been to Turkey many times, never tried this dish, what exactly are the ingredients, always good to try something new.
-
Basically it's a mix of chopped onion and tomato (with a few herbs and sometimes a bit of chilli) together with egg, the egg is usually scrambled into the onion and tomatoes, or at Foto and Elixir the egg isn't scramble it in, they just poach them in the mix. 8)
Dead easy and delicious.
