Hi everyone,
I have read a lot about the amazing choice of restaurants in Kalkan, seems like the perfect place for foodies.
I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for the best places for traditional Turkish food and the best Turkish dishes to try while we're in Kalkan. We don't mind if the restaurants aren't fancy, we just want a taste of the local cuisine and are not that familiar with Turkish food so excited to try it!

There are several good value places up at the top of the town near the moonlight bar that do Turkish food, and that's where the locals tend to go. Oz Adana is also very good but has recently moved up the hill near the D400 road. Most of the restaurants down near the harbour tend to be more international and pricier, although the restaurants on the whole are very good value. Once again, great advice from Skunk. All the restaurants do traditional Turkish food, though like Skunk says, down by the harbour you will have a great selection of both turkish and international style food. Why not try a traditional Turkish breakfast - great at brunch time. Also on market day you will find some great traditional cooking, gozleme etc in the market. Omars kitchen opposite the market is a good place to try for traditional lunch and cafe vita on kalamar rd and fener cafe at the harbour do wonderful Turkish breakfasts. Chillies do great kebabs and it's quite reasonable too. We love the ottoman style casserole (kulu guvec I think!!) which is served in most of the restaurants for evening meal and may come in a clay pot or a sizzling platter or a shared dish for 2. Oh my mouth is watering and I can't wait for July. :D

Yes, great post Lizilu, I agree with all your recommendations - but haven't tried Chillies yet. Roll on August!!

Yes roll on August! As sad as it is we installed a Days Left to Kalkan App on our phones when it was over 250 days to go, but today it is only "49"! Has anyone else done that?

No I've not done that but just checked and it's 52 days until we're there. The suspense is killing me :) We are hoping to join you all in Kleo Bar on the 11th.
We had a couple of good traditional meals at Hunkar Ocakbasi in April.

Wine is my tipple of choice. A nice cold Chardonnay followed closely by rose. Must admit though, I do like a short too. G&T ( but not in Kalkan much as there is never any slimline tonic) so usually have JD or Bacardi or vodka and diet coke. Quite like a nice mojito too and I love the almond liqueur you sometimes get after your meal. I guess I'm not too fussy !!!!! ;D

Lizilu, you sound about as fussy as me regarding alcohol......and I'm not fussy either! :)
8 days for us (23rd June)and then 44 days (29th July) and counting. Reading all the reviews on here this week, I really can't wait, I've bought my Mini Chopper and just need to order the water hammock, but will it be 1 or 2.

MrsC all the restaurants offer a selection of Turkish dishes. Casserole dishes made with lots of fragrant spices are very popular. Had a wonderful lamb dish with walnuts and cinnamon in Gourmet and the Ottoman Chicken in Sofra served with a fruit compote and cous cous is fabulous. Too many dishes to mention!

MrsC - If you want to have a go at cooking Turkish food rather than just eating it, we had a cookery lesson in Kalkan a couple of years ago at Gurus Place. We had a great morning and must have done ok as we were pleased to see them sell what we made to some customers who came in for lunch! There were only two of us on the lesson and we must have made enough for about 10 people so we wre pleased it didn't go to waste.
Just had a look on their website and they still do the cookery lessons although the price has gone up a bit since we were there.
