My wife and I have just returned from our second Kalkan visit. It is many years since we have returned to a holiday destination but we started making plans to come back before we even left last year. I suspect that 2013 will see our third time!
We stayed at the Kalkan Regency, which really is a great hotel. We found ourselves strolling into town most days for a drink, shave (in my case) and perusal of handbags / purses (wife). Once again we really enjoyed the restaurants.
Our best experiences were at Escudo and Gourmet. Escudo is the smallest of the two but has a lovely terrace and interior. Ismail and family were very welcoming. Gourmet is very close by and the food / presentation were top class.
We also visited DoyDoy - decorated since last year and a little bit more expensive; Kosk - the most "corporate" restaurant in town. The waiters have uniforms and touchpads. It was our only printed bill, and the only one that included stuff we hadn't ordered! Still a good evening. We also ate at Kalamaki, which we seemed to get on a bad night. Several other tables appeared to be disappointed as well. The service was pretty poor. However, other people we spoke to enjoyed their visits on other nights so perhaps we were unlucky.
As I said above we are already looking forward to next year. The only decision is when to come.

A great post thanks admgriffin. I would suggest September is the best time to visit, the sea is very warm and the weather not too boiling. Since I got a school job in 2008 I have had to go in school holidays and really miss the September experience! Glad you enjoyed yourselves. :) :) :)

Agree with Skunk, September is our favourite time also. Though I'll just have to put up with the heat in July too ;)

September is absolutely perfect. Always went in July and October but changed to July and September last year and same again this year :D

i visited during the last week in april and altho at times it was chilly for me (its always hot where i'm from!) i loved that it was not busy- was wondering (for future planning) whether the september scene might be comparable to april in terms of being busy. thanks!

Ryss September is much busier than April, all the restaurants and businesses are open - it is a very popular month. the weather is perfect, much warmer than April and the sea is so warm it's like a bath. Beautiful month, in my opinion.
