Title: "Unknown" trout restaurant in Islamlar
Post by: Mags on May 17, 2012, 08:07:29 AM
We were recommended by Uluc Bilgutay (owner of Korsan & Fish Terrace) to a trout restaurant in Islamlar which we hadn't heard of before for lunch. It's called YAYLA and is run by a guy called Musa. The restaurant is very small and fairly basic (although the loo is fine!!), but has superb views through the valley over to Mouse & Snake Islands. No menu, but Musa runs through with you what's available. We had the usual fried cheese with chilli flakes, garlic mushrooms, shrimps, salad, olives & village bread to start with. Then grilled trout, with our non-fish-loving daughter being offered a choice of kofte or chicken. Musa was able to get a couple of bottles of wine for us too. No music to accompany the meal - just the sound of the trout streams rushing past and the odd cockerel crowing. Musa picked us up from the old town in Kalkan and brought us back, although the drives were an extra element in the bill, which is fair enough, as it's not a trivial distance out to Islamlar.
As always in Islamlar, it was cooler than Kalkan. All in all, it made a good few hours out and we'd recommend YAYLA for anyone looking for a slightly less-commercialised "trout experience".

I don't know quite where Chops is (never been there), but we passed Mahmut's (I guess that's what you mean) on the right as we were driven to Yayla. Yayla was a bit further on, again on the right.

Thanks for the info Mags - do you happen to have the telephone number so that we can arrange transport? Nice to try somewhere different, we love the views and serenity of the mountains!

Yes, Irene: Musa'a phone number is 0536 576 4775. Unless your Turkish is quite good, it might be best to ask a Turkish friend to ring  - Musa's English is fairly basic and might not be quite up to making the pick-up arrangements.

Thank you so much Mags, good idea ref asking someone with good Turkish to make the arrangements as our Turkish is limited.  My husband would spend more time in the mountains if he had his way so he will enjoy visiting a new restaurant in Islamlar  x
