Having been back a week now I thought I would put a post on about wine in restaurants and would welcome peoples opinions of this. Me and Mr Ek love to have a bottle of wine with our meal and one thing that really influenced our enjoyment of restaurants this year was their wine list. Thankfully wine is changing in Kalkan now and there is not just your usual Dikman and Angora available. We found that Mousakka had a brilliant wine list and wasn't too pricey. What we did notice though, is that restaurants didn't usually put their wine lists on the menu outside so you didn't know what you were getting until you sat down.
On another note we did find that supermarkets have a much greater selection of wine now, with Yali being the best in my opinion, they had some really nice bottles of rose in there at reasonable prices.
We are going back Kalkan in June with some friends who love their wine and would welcome your suggestions of restaurants to visit that have nice wine (different from the usual) along with good food of course. :)
Thanks
Julie

Escudo has a good wine list, from a company called Likya Wines.
-
Thanks Mags, if only they advertised the wine lists outside like the menus ???
-
Mags, that sounds like a good reason to visit Escudo next month.
Like Mrs Enjoy Kalkan we have noticed a much larger selection of wine now in Yali, which is where we usually shop. Last visit we were only there a week and didn't get to sample too many. It would be great if any forum members could do some trials for us and post recommended wines on here. I know it is subjective but recommendations welcome as we do enjoy our wine.
We would also appreciate Mrs Enjoy Kalkan's suggestion of recommendations of restaurant with a good selection of wine.

Likya have a vineyard just outside of Elmali, well worth a visit if you enjoy wine.....they show you round and afterwards invite you to sample and you can purchase a bottle or two afterwards. :) :)

Yes, its worth a visit, also kalamaki stocks Liyka wines, and White table has some nice wines

Hi
Liked the Cankaya white and Villa Doluca red, which you can buy in Yali. Have visited the Lykia winery and it was a good day out. We thought the wine was on the whole good, the Rose being the pick, but overpriced. However that was last year and the exchange rate is so good that it probably doesn't matter.

If you want a bit of an education into Turkish wines, a good place to start is Huseyin's wine tasting events at Gurus Place on the Kas Road - not far from your place Mr & Mrs EK. You get to sample a range of wines made from different grapes along with tasters of fruit, cheese, bread, etc, that enhance the whole experience. I can guarantee you will have a better appreciation of Turkish wines by the end of the session - assuming your brain has survived the onslaught!!

Thanks Clashgour we will have to try there. Is it past or before Adams place? I can't seem to place it.

Next door to Adem's, just before it as you come from Kalkan.
Does great cookery lessons too!
