Title: Where to Buy / Rent Baby Products / Items?? Advice Please
Post by: Jess2012 on January 03, 2012, 10:36:04 AM
Hi

I am new to this forum so hopefully I have posted in the correct place.

My husband and I are thinking of taking our (then) 11 month old baby to a work colleagues villa in Kalkan next May / June and I don't think he has a cot.  Would anyone be able to advise where we can buy / rent a cot for a 2 week period?  Also, stair guards and a high chair would be really useful if anyone can recommend where we can get them from?

Also, how well stocked are the local shops / supermarkets for baby foods. I have been advised that Turkey do not have any UK branded products is this correct?  I would be interested to know what types of nappies (normal and waterproof) and baby food is available. I will be more than likely bringing our own baby formula milk.

Finally, what medical facilities / pharmacists are available locally in case the little one is unwell?

Kalkan looks so beautiful but my husband is a bit reluctant to risk taking our daughter to somewhere we have never visited and also outside of the EU.  If anyone can share their experiences with their babies in Kalkan and Turkey in general I would really appreciate it as it will help put our minds to rest.

Thanks

Jessica

Jess try www.kalkanconcierge.com for rental of baby equipment.  Several pharmacies, with English speaking staff and a medical centre in Kalkan.  Sorry can't answer your questions regarding baby food or nappies.

Most supermarkets stock both foods [maybe not as much choice as the UK but enough I would have thought for a holiday stay ] and disposable nappies

Just come from the new BIM and they have them and by May we will have another two large supermarkets top choose from...so you should not have any problems

We had no problems in 1993 with a 10month old and it's improving all the time.
+1 for the www.kalkanconcierge.com (http://www.kalkanconcierge.com)

The Turks adore babys toddlers etc.. probably the easiest holidays we ever had with baby/toddlers etc. were in Turkey.

We provide a travel baby cot in our villa that folds away for guests. Maybe you could be cheeky and suggest they get one that you take out there.? No idea if this would cost you more but you'd be comfortable you had one before you went out.

We will be in Kalkan in May 12 with our 8 month old (at that time).

We are also interested in knowing what types/brands of baby food, formula milk (use we aptamil at the moment) are available and if swim nappies are also available and also costs compared to the UK so we can decide what to bring with us versus buying locally.

Thanks everyone for their emails and advice.  Kalkan concierge looks like a god send, and the supermarkets seem to be well stocked up. Have definitely put our minds at rest.
Booking our flights tomorrow - can't wait.

I live in Kalkan and have one year old twins, and many of my friends also have young children.  The supermarkets stock jars of baby food (not as much variety as UK but will do for two weeks), including HIPP, and baby biscuits.  They also have Aptamil formula, but be aware it is more than double the price!  There is a wide variety of nappies, including Huggies and Pampers, plus wet wipes, and swimming nappies too (I think roughly on a par with UK).

Definitely recommend Kalkan Concierge for any equipment you may need.

Please feel free to ask any more questions you may have.

Enjoy your holiday!!!

Hi Jess,
We took our son when he was 5 months old and it was absolutely fine.  We stayed at the Samira Garden, who provided a cot and lots of baby stuff for us as they have a little girl only a couple of months older than Alex, plus it was our 4th visit so they knew us well by then  :)  You can buy Pampers nappies in the supermarkets, and also "milupa" formula milk which is aptamil.  Hope this helps!  We're going back in May, can't wait!  Lauren xx

You will have no problem and the Turkish people love children, every restaurant has good quality high chairs and will do what they can to accommodate you and your child. You will have a great holiday. The local doctor is great (arrived within 3 minutes when my 92 year old dad fell and knocked himself out and gave excellent treatment) as are the pharmacies.
