Title: Where will be open the beginning of November?
Post by: turkeyfan on October 24, 2011, 10:02:50 AM
We've only managed to get to Kalkan a couple of times this year and although the weather probably wont be up to much, we are hoping for a visit about 5th November.

Any idea where will still be open for food and drinks?    ;D

There should be plenty of places to keep you fed and watered! Please be aware though that 5th November marks the start of bayram and a few more places than usual will be closing for the holiday as staff are going home to see their families after a very long season.

Have a look on Kalkan Turkish Local News.    They have today produced a list of restaurants etc which should be open all or some of the winter.    Looks like more and more places are now remaining open.   Will still be a very quiet place compared to summer but there should be no problem with places to eat out and food shopping for those who are self catering.

It's great to have all these places staying open but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find any decent flights out of season. I was looking to go early december from Gatwick but most flights are well over £200 and not direct. Has anyone found any?

Weekly flights with Flythomascook.com from Gatwick to Antalya.  One way from £40.  It  seems Dalaman shuts down for international flights over the winter.

Anyone know if this is really new.?    We started to fly with Thomas Cook because at the time they appeared to be the only airline flying from Gatwick to Dalaman in the winter and just continued to use them for summer flights as well.

We were not planning to fly out this winter but it would be good to know what is happening with winter flights .    I had expected them to increase if anything.  Obviously a longer transfer from Antalya and one we haven't yet tried

:(thomas cook did do winter flights for a couple of years in to dalaman but stopped about 2 or three years ago. they just do one flight a week over christmas and new year now. we are coming out this month with pegasus via istanbul. prefer to do that than the journey from antalya.

re flights during the winter months.

my understanding is that dalaman was indeed closed during the winter of2010/11, but as a one off. (i of course could be wrong)  The flights coming into turkey are reasonable but with a return flight back to the UK i have never managed it for less than around £260 return and thats without a meal.

fly thomas cook has also been the only airline i could find operating that did a direct flight into Antalya. turkish airline do operate, but via Istanbul with anything from 6hr upwards waiting for connection.

Antalya is of course doulbe the transfer time and costs around 200tlr (last winter), but for my travel purposes it is more convenient than sitting at Istanbul airport for several hours.

Kalkan is quiet in the winter months, after new year, however, it is still mild weather and there is opportunity to get out and about without the crowds and do/see things one may not in the busy season. The other advantage of the winter is there is time to have coffee and get to meet and chat to people both local turkish and local british ,which is lovely and relaxing just mooching  about.

regards :) :) :)

Chickengeorge asked about flights for early December. The price I quoted £40 (£40.99) was Dec 4th returning 18th at £59.99.  So £100 return.

Hi. Thanks Charlie for your suggestion of flights into Antalya. BabyBoomer these flights are with FlyThomascook - they still have them but a little dearer now. If going via Istanbul it is possible to get easyjet flights into Sabiha Gokcen and then Pegasus to Dalaman on same day. There are probably dearer options on one stop flights. I still think without direct flights to Dalaman it will put most off from coming. I'm going elsewhere for one. Hopefully if they build the Dalaman Marina and finish the golf course they will start doing flights to Dalaman in winter again.

Yes, they do flights over Xmas period but not when I want to go. I work over Xmas. Can't wait.
