Title: Residency Visa
Post by: amber on October 03, 2011, 05:44:21 AM
For a variety of reasons we had allowed our residents visas to lapse (illness, cost and passport) and lived here on a tourist visa like many others. However over the past 2 weeks we have renewed our residents visas. The process was very straight forward and providing you are very organised and prepared it should cause no problems. There is a very good section on KTLN advising what is required and luckily we still had our ikamet books so could save money as these can be reused.
We had been to the belidye and obtained the Oturma Izni paperwork for 250lira to go with our tapu and yes it was required (for us anyway!).We had to wait 2 days to obtain it from the belidye as the mayor wasnt around to sign it so dont leave it till the last minute if you require one.As a couple we were asked for 2 copies of the original document.
We had a pay 595lira each at the tax office for our 5 year visas. The fee depends on the dollar/lira exchange rate on the day so make sure you take extra money!!! It was more costly than we had expected but we had been warned.
We were unable to obtain the visa from Kemer on the same day,a few people have been able to though but we were asked to go back one week later so that was two trips. The second on Friday meant we had to drive through rain and hailstones!! On a positive, we had a couple of lovely lunches at the lokanta on the opposite side of the road from the police station.
So we are now "official" residents-hooray.
