Title: Residents - Private health insurance
Post by: amber on September 02, 2011, 03:30:18 PM
Recently KTLN conducted a poll about health insurance and a good number of residents said they had private health insurance in place.
I would be interested to know what companies residents have used and their experiences if claims have been made.
This would help those of us without insurance protection at the moment.

Just asking out of interest - are you saying that as a Turkish resident, you cannot use their Universal Healthcare scheme - or do you wish private insurance as well?

The government policy regarding foreign residents and the national health insurance, i.e., universal healthcare, is unclear, if indeed there is a policy at all.  A few people have applied and been granted the insurance, many others with the same qualifications have applied and have been rejected.  It seems very arbitrary.  Moreover, in the case of at least 2 couples, they were told both were covered when they paid the premiums, but when they went to request health services, only one of the couple was in fact covered.

Most residents have private health insurance which can be bought by anyone 63 or less.  Apparently the coverage is good, I know 2 people who have been treated for very serious, on-going conditions and all care has been covered by their private insurance.  It seems that Axa is the most popular company.  Many banks sell health insurance policies.
