Title: HOLIDAY REPORT - 1st VISIT
Post by: TC on August 22, 2011, 01:13:56 PM
Hi All, just returned from my first visit to Kalkan, and having had such high hopes beforehand we were not let down! It is a beautiful place! Very friendly people, fantastic choice of quality restaurants, reasonable prices and views to never get bored of. Stayed in a villa up near the school which meant some serious inclines to deal with but the views from the our terraces were superb! An easy 25 minute downhill walk every night for dinner and didn't have one bad meal. I know everyone will have their favourites but for us Gourmet, The Old Trading House, Pisces, Paparazzi & Hadraba(?) were top of our list. The Thursday market was interesting and it seemed that if you go late in the day and are prepared for some serious haggling you can knock some big chunks off their asking prices.
Also found Cinars bar to be very friendly and the owner always found time for a chat, comfy big bean bags to sit and enjoy a cold beer in..
Have nothing negative to say about the place at all and I am sure we'll return next year. Just hope it doesn't get too popular and spoilt.

Sorry, forgot to say.....no hassle at all with the stray dogs. Yes there were quite a few around but none were aggressive and were in fact all pretty friendly and seemed to want a bit of company. Were not disturbed at all by any late night barking sessions.
We all avoided serious cases of the "bug" although 2 of us did have slightly dodgy stomachs for a day or two but did not interfere with our eating, drinking and general all round enjoyment.

I wonder if anyone ever visits Kalkan and says "no its not for us" and then don't return??
still I don't suppose they would come on this forum so we won't find out. glad to hear you've caught 'the bug' TC....and I mean that in the positive sense of the word

Great report nice to get a thread which is in the true spirit of the forum "enjoy kalkan" there has been too much negative uninformative threads of late so this has just set the mood for our next visit (sorry folks 2 days time!!) Gourmet was one of our favourites too so good to know they still got it right as it was new for this year. You will be back I can guarantee it once bitten and all that, glad you had good time tho. Babs i am sure I have read some people's opinions that they don't feel the love (maybe on Tripadvisor somewhere) but I tend to dismiss them and think there must be something wrong with them!! ;D

We go three weeks today, it will be our 7th visit, my daughter and hubby also went 7 years ago, loved it so much that they bought a villa in Kalama, they are there now for 3 weeks, when they return, thats when we go for 2 weeks, we cant wait.

We are 70 and 71 but Kalkan makes us feel so young at hart, with its lovely people.
