Title: Dalaman Airport £££££
Post by: hodstar on June 30, 2011, 07:53:04 PM
Fancied a beer and a snack whilst waiting for the check in to open at Dalaman
3 x cans Efes
1 x bag of crisps

49TL

Could have had a meal and drinks for 2 at Chillies for the same price.

The prices there are ridiculously expensive, but they are at most airports......captive audiences.

I always take a picnic, if you dont want to make it yourself there are a lot of places in Kalkan that will do it for you and much cheaper/tastier than anything Dalaman has to offer.I include little boxed drinks and have never been stopped from taking them into the airport.
Sometimes I splash out on a coffee but am usually sorry because its tasted like dishwater and cost about 10lira!

We got caught in a delay at Dalman today so thought we'd have a quick look at the food on offer. We were particularly taken with the twix bar, which looked remarkably similar to those sold in the uk, except this was a very tasty £3 quid  ;D

Happy days !

We always take a packed lunch in and save the standard £60 for a family of four to have a McDonalds

Oh yes - a basic schoolboy error there.
Picnics are the way to go - then you only really have to fork out a measly 10tl for a very small  :P :Pbottle of water if dehydration becomes a real possibility! :P

It is possible to get tea/cake for 5tl at the gate, coffee/cake for 8tl. Why it's cheaper there I don't know.

For Dalaman that sounds like a bargain, must have been happy hour.

Looking on the bright side it makes everywhere else seem really cheap, in comparison at T5 and Gatwick they are almost giving the stuff away.

Last month as we were coming home, we heard a rep say that if you go upstairs to the restaurant on the right after checking in, you can get a beefburger and chips or something else (sorry, forgotten what), together with a drink for 10TL, if you are flying with Onur Air.
After checking in, turn with your back to the desk and the stairs are in the far left corner.
I stress that it is only on the landside (before passport control) and, you have to show your Onur boarding pass. I think that Burger King (or KFC), who are on the left at the top of the stairs, also offer a concession to Onur Air passengers.

The tea and cake are now 7 lira. Still cheap for Dalaman airport.

In May on the way home we had a meal in Dalaman then booked into the vip lounge. Although that is pricey you do have food and drinks and intenet included. Comfy seats too. Cant remember the cost though.

Last week a small water (50cl) cost 5 TL at a kiosk near our departure gate. Expensive but not outrageous, and worked out marginally cheaper than buying a 33cl bottle on board which was £1.50. Either way they've got you by the short and curlies.

For an interesting read, may I suggest you go to Skytrax website (and look under the alphabetical list for airport reviews, especially under D for Dalaman!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - no, I am not advertising here, but I think it is something we should all know about), and make suitable preparations >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

Bodrum & Antalya get similar review so it must be a Turkish thing.
Or is it just an airport in general thing. We'll be taking a pick nic this time. Can you take your own food airside though?

No problem with taking food through, no chance with drinks though! Paid the equivalent of £4.80 for a can of Sprite and one of Iced tea!!!! No choice when thirsty!! Met a couple who had taken frozen Capri Sun through security, not stopped!!  ;)

Now that is worrying. Or, do terrorists never read these forums?

Good question.. As we came through the baggage check, the security man stated that no liquids inclding drinks were allowed. There was an area where people had left drinks before proceeding through. Seems like checks have not taken place in certain instances.
