I've searched this forum for info on the best option to receive english speaking TV channels. Most options seem to involve having broadband packages, slingboxes, etc. I am not in Kalkan frequently enough for that but would like a simple satellite tv package. Is Digiturk the answer? There seems to be mixed messages. What do others that own a property but don't live in Kalkan opt for? Would be grateful for any help. thanks

Go for Nilestat free TV which has about 6 news programmes and 6 film channels and a couple of magazine type channels - all free once installed
Not good if you like sport but otherwise its OK
Installation cost around 170TL - for a satellite box - dish and cabling
Unal Electrik under the Vets just up from the TEDAS office are good at this
Digiturk basic package is about 20TL amonth and with films rises to nearer 50TL a month but you can add sport to this for extra cost

Many thanks for that. I'm out there next week so will go and see them. Are the movie channels sub-titled or in english? I have satellite dish/box so presumably it just needs pointing in the right direction. Not sure what I'm on at the moment but only english channel is BBC World.

All channels are in English
Some have Arabic subtitles - useful if you can read Arabic !!!
Tell them in the shop that you want Nilesat and they will realign your satellite dish and programme the box
Ask them to put all the English speaking channels at the front of your channel list so you dont have to wade through hundreds to find the ones you want

I completed everything as suggested and now have a decent selection of english channels from Nilesat. Just 25TL to re-align and re-programme. Excellent, thanks Kevincat99.
