Title: Good deals on TV and wireless internet
Post by: Vally on January 30, 2011, 12:43:49 PM
Hi,

what are the best deals on TV and wireless internet at the moment? Does anyone do any combination packages like in the UK?

TV - I'm looking for a basic package that has some English channels -news etc
Internet - I'm looking for something that has wireless but doesn't need to be superfast.

Thanks

Vally

For internet you need a telephone line cost 15 Lira a month. Then approx 50 Lira for unlimited download and fast speed, a month. You can get most UK programmes with this. If however you want a Digiturk package you will need, a dish, a reciever and depending on what you want to watch anything from a little to a lot a month. Go on the Digiturk site and it will give you the costs of movie channels and sport etc.

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt reply Howard. With regard to getting TV packages through the internet is this iplayer etc you are referring to or is there a box that we could plug into our TV?

We rent our villa out and were looking for something that we could use so guests could watch English TV.

Thanks

Vally

The absolute easiest solution would be to get a dish plus a receiver and tune it to nile sat. You will get about a dozen english language programmes. CNN, BBC World, Al Jazeera, Fox movies, Fox series, MBC,and 7 or 8 more. Programmes include Top gear, Ugly Betty, CSI Miami,Nip and Tuck, The simpsons, lots of films etc. Certainly enough for holiday viewing and the total cost is only about 150 Lira total. Digiturk go from 29 to 260 Lira a month, and you would still need the dish and receiver. For BBC and ITV programmes you would need to use a lap top hide the address and use the iplayer. There was another thread about what to do from Kevincat and Buster.

Hi howmad,

Really interesting post, thanks.  Can you just clarify, is there a monthly charge  on the Dish/receiver/ nile sat option or is it just 150YTL outlay in total with no ongoing costs thereafter once it's all tuned in?  Apologies if I'm missing the obvious here but as you've probably gathered. I'm no expert on these matters!

Thanks

That's my understanding -sounds tempting and will save some cash if I go for unlimited broadband.
