Hi.
We are having problems with the way our Kalkan property has been registered and I wondered if anyone has any similar experiences.
Briefly, the situation is, we bought the apartment 3 years ago, from a well known builder, through one of Kalkan's reputable estate agents, we used a local solicitor as our power of attorney and the sale went through very easily. We've not had any problems with anything since, until we put the apartment up for sale. It has come to light that the apartment (and all the other properties in the block) have been registered as an Isyeri which is a workplace and not as a Meskem, which is a dwelling. This in itself is not a problem unless you come to sell your property to a foreigner who wants a mortgage, as workshops are not mortgageable.
We have been told that it may be possible, though unlikely that the property can be re-registered with the land registry and obviously it will incur costs.
I have contacted the builder and the solicitor and they have both pretty much said 'Yes, thats they way it is - it's common!'
Has anyone else any experiences of this? Did you get around it? What was the outcome? If you would prefer to PM me with any solutions or experiences I am happy for any assistance)
(I am a regular user of this forum, but I have made a new user acount as I don't want the builder or solicitor being named and reading through my old posts they would be.)

Try the turkishliving.com forum which has a lot of expats using it and is good for general Turkish property information. I think this has come up in the past. You will have to register and then use the search function.
