Title: Walking to Patara
Post by: PaulB on October 18, 2010, 10:42:43 AM
Hi everyone

We'll be in Kalkan for half-term week (from 23rd October) and would like to walk from Kalkan to Delikkemer and then possibly on to Patara. It’ll be our first time there.

I’ve read comments about the path not being walkable any more, where others have said they do it regularly.

Could anyone let me know if it is doable, and give me any ideas about any difficulties?

Thanks

Paul

Hi PaulB
The walk to Patara via Delikkemer is well marked and fairly easy. After Delikkemer there are two routes, one inland and one coastal. The only dangerous path is from Kalamar to Delikkemer, not recommended.
We suggest that you start the walk from the new road near to the Levanta development. Walking along the new road from Kalkan the signpost is on your left.
Hope you enjoy the walk. We always do.

Thanks M n M, we'll definitely try that.

We were also in general interested in locating parts of the Lycian Way from Kalkan (walked a bit of it from Faralya last year). Is there anything you'd recommend?

Thanks

Paul

Hi PaulB
We walk as a group and pay for the use of a mini bus and driver. It is quite difficult to get to the start of a walk and to get back to Kalkan.
Most of the walks on the Lycian Way are linear, hence the need for transport at either end. Most walks aren't serviced by public transport and are a good distance from the D400.

Seems people are still being caught out by the dangerous coastal section near Kalamar:

M&M - really wishing I was there to start walking; roll on December

Thanks again, M n M.

We’ll certainly take your advice re the path to Delikkemer and make any other decision once we’re there next week. I’ve taken note of your walk on Sunday, too, though the first day of  our holiday will probably not be too energetic, and we have a brunch at the Regency to attend (we’re staying in a villa with Exclusive Escapes).

Final question (I promise). Is it worth walking up Eren Dag?

Thanks for that information, too, Mark.

Great forum, you’re very helpful.

Hi Paul
There are two Eren Dags on the map. One is on the way to Patara and one is up near Sutlegen.
If it's the Patara one, not really worth the effort.

Hi M n M

Thanks for letting me know. It was the Patara one I was looking at.
