Title: last minute checks
Post by: Baggy on September 21, 2010, 06:15:26 PM
Just four sleeps to Kalkan now - including Friday night with the alarm set for stupid o'clock for our flight.
I have been counting the days - never has a holiday been so anticipated and so needed.
It's our third visit and The Bloke has already planned most nights' meals with military precision . . . The list of must-do restaurants gets longer each time and will soon get to the point where we won't be able to squeeze them all into a fortnight!
Anyhoo - along with the last minute packing and shopping, I just wanted to pop on and check if there's anything we need to brace ourselves for.
I've learned that the bar at the Atlantis is now a coffee and buns kind of place - is that right? I loved my Efes on the terrace watching the world go by on the long slog down the hill!
We are particularly looking forward to returning to Sofra, Zulas, Saffron and Cosk (spelling?) so I am hoping they are still as good as they were last year. Ditto the bar underneath, I think it was a restaurant called Sinbad but I'm not certain, which made wonderful pancakes.
I am hoping the roadworks have quietened down too - we are in an apartment near to the Arcelik shop on the other side of the roundabout (I know I'm beginning to blend into the Kalkan crowd as that name doesn't make me giggle half as much as it did on our first visit . . .) so I'm girding my loins for some bun-busting walks up the hill.
If anyone thinks of anything - let me know . . . Going to change the cash at the post office and got the Avon skin so soft which I swear by for keeping the bitey things away (even outranking flippen floppen in that department ) but I'm guessing the olive flies have all gone by now . . .
What more could there be?
See you at Yali's!

Baggy, you and The Bloke have got it all worked out! Cant answer any of your questions but wanted to say have a smashing time, enjoy every moment, even the bun busting bits!

We have 13 sleeps to go. Taxi also booked for too early to mention o'clock, (just hope that this year we don't oversleep, to be woken up by the sound of diesel engine outside!) (That's what happens when you are so excited you don't get to sleep till half an hour before the taxi arrives and then the inevitable happens)

Enjoy all your restauranteering and tell us all about your adventures if you can tear yourself away from your holiday for a few moments.

happy days!
Lori

Baggy, don't worry you can still get your Efes at the Atlantis/Ada Pattisserie. I am sure Oz will give you a warm welcome.

Baggy, are you flying from Manchester on Saturday?
We are on the Monarch 9am flight and staying at the Yali.
I've got about 6 different lists on the go and have started assembling stuff on the spare bed (I don't want to put anything in the case until Friday night, as it'll just end up creased)
Like you, I'll be too excited to sleep much on Friday night, might I suggest a couple of large glasses of wine before bed? I always find I sleep really well after a few  ;)
Have a great holiday and maybe we'll bump into each other?! We'll definitely go to the music nights at the Nur. My OH looks like a taller Phil Collins and I am short and a bit, ahem, round  :-\
Safe journey and enjoy the Kalkan magic  :-*

Have a great time in Kalkan Cathy. (We'll be there in 5 weeks). Hope you get to do some singing with Baris's band at the Nur. Don't forget the Lounge has live music on Tuesdays, you might get to warble there as well. Just don't go and get yourself deported!  8)

Thanks Allan, will certainly have a visit (or two) to the Lounge.
Kalkan Time is far too precious to risk deportation! ;D  Maybe best to just enjoy watching others perform.
I'll be posting while I'm away, so hopefully get you revved up for your upcoming holiday.
Cheers, Cathy.
