Have any members stayed in Antalya,I might be visiting in a few weeks, looking at staying in the old town.
Any suggestions for hotels ect,how much is a transfer from the airport, and with Antalya being a big city,is it safe for someone wandering about on their own.
any info please,I thank you.
Neil.

We spent a couple of days there just after New Year a couple of years ago, we drove down and the drive along the coast is lovely and you have the opportunity to stop off at some of the classical sites. Antalya seemed very safe, the old town and the harbour are really nice. We stayed at the Sheraton just opposite the beach, high standard of hotel which is what you would expect from this chain. There are a lot of large resort type of hotels beach/side on the way into Antalya. In the old town we had dinner at the Alp Pasha hotel very traditional/Ottoman style and it looked lovely.
It made a nice weekend break - certainly a busy city, which made a nice change for a couple of days

You might want to try a new russian htel in Kemer-Im told its only £11000 a night!!
-
Thanks Isis,Ive looked at the Alp Pasha,It looks a really nice place,I have a lot of thinking to do,I flew back from Antalya last year, and as we drove through I hated the look of the place, but I didnt know that there was a old part, and it looks great, had a look at a lot of small pensions/hotels,so I think I might give It a go. ;D

We're flying into Antalya in a couple of weeks, our first time doing this route. We're staying for 2 nights at the White Garden Pansiyon in the old town before getting the bus up to Kalkan. I've read that the price of a taxi from the airport will be about TL25 but don't know how old that article was so am guessing £20 should cover it.
-
And probably full of Russian hookers !!!! :o ;D
-
...and therefore Rooney and Crouch :o :o :o >:D
Would that be the Mardan Palace, Paulie1955? or is the one you are referring to a new hotel that even "outblings" that? :o
-
Hi Littlelin, yep, thats about the taxi price I have seen, also looked at the White garden, looks nice.
I am thinking of going around the 2nd oct, might even bump into you if you are still there.
-
Sorry Neil, we'll be in Kalkan by then. Quite looking forward to seeing somewhere different for a change but I suppose we'll be constantly comparing the two.
-
There is no comparison between the two.
Antalya is a teeming city and now has a shopping mall. Most of the hotels are either towards Lara beach or in the old town.
You will notice a difference in prices. Haircuts and taxis for instance, are charged at the proper rate, not what they think the yabanci will pay. Food & drink are cheaper too.
Try and get to the gardens overlooking the harbour and get a seat by the wall in the cafe there. I could sit for hours just watching the world go by.
-
Yes, we did notice that prices for eating out were cheaper, probably because it's a major city and therefore not just designed for tourists. Its also quite good if you need some retail therapy. I agree with the comments about the harbour.

i can go to lots of hotels and take hours to get to one side from the other.........if the bar is in the middle!! ;D ::)
-
Golly gosh, sounds like Las Vegas!!!
-
Apparently Antalya is the Russian's favourite holiday destination outside of Russia - does that give you a clue as to what it is like !!
-
:P :P :P
-
Still. Gosh. Vegas blew my mind, but I was expecting it to!
-
We must of been lucky then as we did'nt encouter any Russions there in January, mostly Germans, mind you we were only there for a couple of days and it was 2/3 years ago
