Adam came as planned at 7pm to take us to his restaurant intime for sunset.
It was great to see him and his family again.
Table One was set on the edge of the upper terrace and it was like we had never been away. The sun was slipping down behind us and the camera was flashing away for editing the best ones later. Then, as day became night, we studied the menu, with the unprompted Lal Rose already in the cooler.
We shared some mushroom starters – Mrs A’s favourite being the Mushroom Saute – and then some sizzling beef & a chicken casserole for our mains. Of course, with some home-made chips. The sea was completely calm and out on one of the small islands there was a flickering light. Adam explained it was someone he knows fishing, I gather with a harpoon or similar.
Finishing our meal and enjoying a local liqueur, it was just total tranquillity; Adam then put the terrace lights out “yes, so you can be more romanticâ€ÂÂ.
It’s hard to imagine coming to Kalkan and not spending a few evenings in this way, in total contrast to the “buzz†down by the harbour in Kalkan.
As our evening ended, Adam came over and showed us his latest purchase from the fisherman, who had just called in after managing to catch 10 kilos off the island. One Sea Bream and a perfect Sea Bass, just 2 hours or less out of the sea. Someone else’s perfect lunch tomorrow.
