Title: Apple Tea, not for me ...
Post by: lorilou on July 19, 2010, 11:03:45 AM
Hi. Is anyone able to give me a few tips on acceptable manners around the tradition of offering Apple Tea?
Last year I noticed that in certain places it was offered as a matter of course, even the barbers! And, if one declined, people seemed quite upset. So, we accepted with grace. But it's really not to our liking and also, we found that if we drank it, it was replenished with gusto, and if we didin't drink it, they seemed quite put out.
I found myself looking for a convenient and thirsty pot plant to 'feed' but still, not great if you get caught.  :-[
We really do not want to upset anyone, particularly as this is such a kindness - so has anyone any words of wisdom?
Is it acceptable to decline? Is it ok not to drink it? How do other people deal with this?
I realise it's a small thing to drink the tea to be polite,  but through the day I feel awash with it! So looking for some coping mechanisms (other than an Effes to take the taste away afterwards) ...
thanks!

It's fine to say "no thank you"...do it with a smile and you will offend no one ;)

Thanks Mr Blue. People seem so taken aback when one declines, however bright the smile or gracious the refusal. For me, that's tricky!

We'll work it out I'm sure...  ;D
