Visiting Kalkan for the first time on August 1st for ten days. Any suggestions for friendly, mid priced eat outs for both day and night. Staying in Kisla. Any local places for a cheeky afternoon drink? Ta.

Try the Meydan on the roundabout near the taxi rank,the food is cheap the staff are lovely and the beer is exellant and in frozen glasses mmm perfect on a red hot day!!

If you are wanting to remain in Kisla for your afternoon drinks, try the Firdanka - its open to non-residents. Also the beach clubs at Kisla and Villa Mahal. Not sure about Eagles Nest? Think there's another hotel there that is open to non-residents, just can't remember the name of it.
In the centre of Kalkan there are some lovely mid-priced roof top restaurants - Nar, Musakka, Sofra, Olive Garden and Kalamaki are our favourites. I used to put IBO in this price range, but we found their prices on a par with Coast@Gironda when we were there last month.
Still really nice food, just more expensive than it used to be.

Eating out in Kalkan is expensive - our most expensive meals cost in excess of 200 tl and we didn't drink much.. For a good budget meal of traditional Turkish fair (of which you'll be hard pressed to find a great deal of in Kalkan) try Oz Adana - it's down the side road to the right by Tesko supermarket (you'll can see a big sign for Extinct restaurant down the same road). They gave us free starters and the mains were really good - our meals there costs us around 50 tl. Plus they do one of my favourite deserts in the world, Kunefe (it's not the BEST Kunefe there is - you really only find that in Istanbul - but it was still pretty good). Kalkan is amazing and I can't wait to go back - my only gripe is the lack of real Turkish cuisine.

you said meals at Coast / Aubergine were in excess of 200L, can I ask how many people that was for and how many courses?

I think you may be barred from a few eating places after giving away their secrets,oh the fish in Oz Adana is frozen,I have seen them put fish in the microwave,and in the soup kitchen if you ask for spicy lentil soup,thats what you get. ;D

Fidimax, you've made me feel bad so I've removed the finer details from my other post - but I do think it's fair game to be honest about the quality of some of the ingredients when the prices are what they are. And I gleaned the smash fact myself - I wasn't giving away any secrets, just my honest opinion from my experience.. I'm a massive food lover so can't help but be honest! But I do adore Kalkan - and generally (albeit not Turkish) the food is good. I can't say about the fish in Oz Adana as I didn't have it - but it's definitely good for the kebabs etc. Aubergine was for 2 people, 3 courses (shared dessert) plus about 4 drinks each.

You dont have to eat at the "posh" eating places,yes great for a special night,now Ive been going to Kalkan for a few years,I dont do the roof terraces or the harbour for a meal,seek out the small places in the back streets,the food is just as good and more friendly staff,YES,you can do Kalkan on a Budget,I do it three times a year !

well said fidimax, there are so many restaurants in Kalkan and people are often seduced by the harbour side and roof terrace restaurants and whilst they are undoubtedly good, they are amongst the most expensive. I have not visited lots of the places yet (we try to do a couple of new ones each visit) but certainly amongst our favourites are two who are much less expensive are Istanbul and Iso's both back from the harbour but I'm not too bothered by the view whilst eating great food.
There are very few places in Kalkan (in my experience) who serve mediocrity.

just back from Kalkan and would thoroughly recommend Cafe Zula in the old town for both quality and price. The fact that we ate there several times despite the vast number of restaurants in Kalkan tells its own story.

Quite a few have suggested this Cafe so will now take your advice and check it out immediately after arriving on October 10th.
That's immediately after a hair cut and a shave, of course.

The Fenner Cafe now does really good food at very reasonable prices.
Great for lunch as you can watch the beach - the harbour and the bay
In an evening the same food and ambiance but you can also order food from the Bade Restaurant across the road but eat in the Fenner if you wish
Spoilt for choice ;D

At least the shorts fit again and I've still a month to go....

Cafe Zulu is fantastic. It is roof top and the service was great and very cheap. I thought the liver was to die for but advertised with REAL BISTO GRAVY. But then again in the market it is real G star jeans. A great place to eat

Cafe ZULA...is where Zenos used to be ..opposite Ramis...down road opposite Moonlight bar turn left when you reach town square..just on the left ;)

Turn down towards the harbour at the Moonlight bar, and it's the first turning on the left.
Cafe Zula was the only restaurant we visited twice on our last two trips to Kalkan as it's so good.

Right, I've got it - Cafe ZULA, thanks Tatilde and BL for pointing me in the right direction, on the list for next week along with a few other mid priced restaurants. It seems that restaurants in the mid-price range have been popular this year.
