Title: Local Transport
Post by: MD on May 29, 2010, 08:16:49 AM
Not sure if I will hire a car or just use available transport. Can anybody advise how good the local buses (dolmus) and taxis are?

Hi,
Dolmus not available in the resort, but you have buses to outlying villages. You can get to Patara and Kas easily enough from the bus station. In Kalkan, it depends on where you are staying. Easy to get about the old town and if staying in Kizilitas, Komerluk and Kalamar, you can walk into town. Kisla is further out and you can walk, but you can get across to the harbour by water taxis from the beach clubs, but not back at night. Walking back up the hills is not as easy. Taxis are plentiful but you need to factor the cost into your holiday budget. Car hire ~ £25/day, but fuel is expensive.

Definately hire a car  or a bike, the taxis are ridiculously expensive and there are no local buses around the resort. It's very hilly and not pleasant walking here in the heat

MD it depends where you are staying and where you want to get to. We walk throughout Kalkan - stay in Kormuluk and walk in, visit our friends in Kizilitas walk up and back...yes even on the unfinished roads, but we do walk for fun and chose to walk and decline lifts from the many people who stop and offer to take us where we are going. If you're wanting to travel outside Kalkan - buses from the bus station can take you to Kas, Kaputas, Patara, Kinik, Berzigan and Fethiye - we use them regularly, no problem.
