We are coming over in Spring to take delivery of our new Villa in Kalkan. Our thoughts are turning to contacting home because we are hoping to stay in Kalkan for longer than the usual holiday period.
EK has covered the “cheap phone calls†topic several times before but does anybody actually use Skype or similar? Its clear how this works in the UK but I am not sure about Turkey.
How and who do you pay for the calls? They maybe cheap but we will not be registered with anybody in Turkey, unless the establishments with free wifi in Kalkan are paying a flat monthly fee to their provider for calls?
Thanks in advance.

It's easy
Download Skype in the UK and set up an account for yourself
You then need to buy some credits [which you do via a credit / debit card]- £10 is the minimum
Then you can access your account from anywhere in the world
It costs about 1p per minute from Turkey to the UK
Go to it

It costs nothing if its a pc to pc call.We use this to australia very regularly.Quality of video/audio not bad either. You only pay if you are calling from your pc to a landline.

yes we use it all the time when we are in turkey and it has really improved since we started a couple of years back.
pc to pc is great you can have those video chats with family and friends (once you have persuaded them to go on skype too)!!

I have skype and pay 4.50 euros a month to call land lines in the uk for free unlimited minutes..its excellent. Better than just pc to pc and cheaper than adding credit. You cant call 08 numbers though.
