Title: villa security
Post by: tonyjam on October 23, 2009, 03:54:09 PM
 Hello,
I posted a suggestion regarding villa / apartment security. With the idea of Dummy alarm boxes containing a flashing L E D , and not relying on any mains power. This gives the impression of an active alarm within.Maybe Kalkan is different ,but I have been installing this particular item in the Uk for 15years and it seems to act as some kind of deterrent.Be interested for any comments

I think that it is a reasonably good idea and contrary to a post on another thread, I watched the Jandarma investigating an alarm last night. It would be a foolish burglar who carried on ransacking a villa with the alarm going. I also do not see how a burglar is going to know if a box is real or not. I would not get one fitted and then start telling anybody that it is not real.

I cant understand why anyone who has a property in Kalkan woudnt have a
REAL alarm, yes it might go off when no one is in the property, yes it will annoy neighbours, but I presume anyone who rents out the property has a agent in kalkan, who they could give the code for the alarm, and they could give the agents phone number to neighbouring properties.
why pay for a fake alarm when you can buy alarms cheap enough in the UK,
which these days are easy to fit yourself, most people have a alarm in the UK,why not in Kalkan ?  ???

Hi Fidimax sounds great that you are happy to annoy the neighbours and to rely on your agent in Kalkan - and assuming that you have one - would rush up to the villa and switch it off is a bit pie in the sky I would suggest - how would the Jandarma know who the agent was or if there was one if the alarm went off?
Good in theory - but in practice ??

What do you do when leave your home in the uk to go on holiday and put the alarm on ?
Who mentioned the Jandarma ?
dont agents get paid to look after a property ?
A lot of residents/owners are worried about being broken into, start a simlar thing to the neighbourhood watch scheme,if you own a property and are not doing anything about protecting it,like you would in the UK,then whats the problem, its up to the owner to sort something out,not just the mayor, jandarma or the local council.

Hi

Many of us who are owners do not have an 'agent' as we do not rent out, also I imagine that agents have better things to do than go and sort alarms that are 'going off'?

I use to have an 'agent' and I can tell you she would not have been impressed with having her evenings interupted!
I am not sure what the answer is?

Most agents in Kalkan look after villas during the season, the rest of the time nobody goes near them. Some parts of Kalkan are completely deserted in winter. A neighbourhood watch works if there is someone watching behind a net curtain but not when maybe only one house in a street is occupied. Kisla is almost all in darkness as are large parts of Kiziltas and Komerluk. I do not think that there is a real answer to the problem, I wish there was.

How about using a system that links into your broadband then sends you a msg if the alarm is activated. You can also link up web cams to monitor your property a friend of mine has this for his place in Spain allows him to check things out as and when.

That is what they are paid for, looking after property's.  In the UK I have propertys rented out and managed by lettings companys and if alarms go off they attend, its one of the not so nice things about there jobs.
