Title: Great Holiday
Post by: anne41 on October 09, 2009, 05:20:30 PM
Got back from Kalkan yesterday - like most folks who give a holiday report - words really fail me - it was fantastic.
When we were having our last lunch at the Ivy my OH asked me if there was anything that I did not like or something that dissapointed - thought and thought and could not come up with anything.
The people were the ones to make it so special - everyone is so friendly and nothing seems too much trouble.

On our first morning into town to get supplies - felt so at home at home - we did a lot of food shopping as we were in a villa and made most of our evening meals - (not cause we are mean Scots but just like to relax with our friends that way) We found everything we wanted - meat at the butchers, veg at the greengrocers or market and any of the supermarkets are good - only mistake I made bought butter thinking it was soft cheese and had to experiment a bit with the cold meats to find the ones we liked - but nothing was wasted!

We had lunch out every day and tried most of the places suggested and some more - everything was great and not too expensive lunches averaged £8 to £10 a head - but I'm talking about Lonnnnnngggg lunches with wine, beer and water or fresh orange- even the beach cafe at Patara beach was fine and the staff there were so cheery.

Our most expensive evening meal was at the Aubergine - £25 a head but it was really nice.

I know some folks have the gift of using words on paper - antler to name but one - sorry I don't have that ability - but the place was truly magical - have already been on to search for accommodations for next year.

Just to say before I finish was really concerned about the 'wild life' as am not too good with strange animals - But the dogs and cats were like Kalkan itself - quiet and sleepy - I know we were not in town every night - but did have a visit from the occasional stay cat and dog round our villa - said shoo and they just went away - never left any rubbish out - always took it to the bins.

Can't believe it is all over - can't wait till next visit

THANKYOU ALL ON THIS SITE AND TO ALL IN KALKAN - BRILL

Anne

Lovely to read, anne, and I'm shocked by the compliment regarding words on paper - thank you! It sounds like you had some fantastic lunches. I'm going to Izmir on business shortly and I've even looked at how I could get to Kalkan just for a meal - what a draw that place has on you!

Hi Anne, so glad you had such a wonderful time in Kalkan. We just got back this morning and couldn't meet up as our first day was the day you were flying home.
It's always such a joy to hear about first time visitors and how they, like most of us, have fallen in love with Kalkan.
At least the weather today in Lanarkshire is quite pleasant and the sun has even decided to pay us a visit :)

Nothing is guaranteed with the weather, but I know I was able to sunbathe until mid November last year.
Thomas Cook have a flight out from Newcastle on 30th October for £24 - worth taking a chance with the weather?

As far as I'm aware there are no flights out from Glasgow after 31st October as winter timetables start (despite the fact that the timetable on flythomascook says otherwise). You would have to fly from Manchester or Gatwick.

certainly in the past the last flight back to Scotland was end of October and didn't start again until April :(
Always thought about "accidentally on purpose" missing the last flight home >:D
Sure it's the same this year and would have to drive down to Manchester. Although I've done it a few times it's not a pleasant experience if the flight gets into Manchester in the early hours of the morning and you're faced with a longish drive after many hours of travelling

Can certainly recommend missing the flight home - I came out for a week in June 2008 and am still here 16 months later and loving it!

No flights from Glasgow  - our free week is the last one in Nov.  - so will have to wait till next year to get back to Kalkan - but have already started the search for somewhere to stay - this will keep me going all winter - as well as popping in to this site to get my 'fix'
thanks Anne
