Have sent one PM but would appreciate any advice people may be able to offer a 30 year old female travelling alone to Kalkan on Monday ! Will be part of a larger group most, but not all of the time :)
-
Not to walk home alone, get a taxi if hotel / apart not in town centre.
-
thats a great excuse not to walk up the hill back to the hotel ! i assume taxis are safe and easily accessible?
-
Taxi's are very easily accessible, just at the start of town centre.
To me Kalkan feels very safe but I would say if I was there on my own I would treat it the same as being in the UK.
-
Hiya Sarah,as far as I know the Kalkan taxis are safe,I havent heard anything other wise and lots of them, make sure you get a price first,go to the office and ask.
-
thank you, the shall i walk or not dilemma has been answered - if it costs me 25 quid in taxis for a week, well its worth it methinks!
-
Can I ask where you are staying, you might get some Ideas on taxi prices.
-
Stop stalking the woman!
-
Oi,Tog,you been on the Efes ? ;D >:D
-
messaged you location!

I always travel to Kalkan alone, not in a group, and hopefully I still think im able to walk back at night alone. Unfortunately, the people who gave the last warning to women walking alone, did not reply to my PM, as they said they would, so i can only assume its ok now, or they got inundated with people wanting to know more. Im there in a couple of weeks, and i was hoping i could carry on as normal. As someone said, act the same as if you are in the UK, ironically, i feel safer in Kalkan than at home, but i guess confidence comes with familiarity. You will have a great time Sarah, dont worry. :)

I regularly walk into town alone along the Kalamar Road when in Kalkan, sometimes quite late at night, and have never felt threatened as usually there are lots of people around. Without knowing any specifics, it's difficult to comment, but I agree that it's common sense that you should keep your wits about you in the same way you would at home.
-
Yes - I agree keep your wits about you - that said - I feel MUCH safer walking late at night by myself in Kalkan than I do here in the UK...... :)

Cougar,
You're probably right - they probably got inundated with stupid questions like I have when offering warnings and sensible advice. Bad things have happened and still do happen to the unwary. Don't trust strangers nomatter how helpful they may seem. Single girls/women walking alone late at night anywhere these days are, in my opinion, behaving rather stupidly. I know of one Kalkan attack which occured in broad daylight - the attacker is serving a 12 year jail sentence. Don't be put off Kalkan though, the same week that attack happened, a pensioner was murdered in a Crawley (Sussex) street for her purse.
-
Your absolutely right rat2, I was one of those inundated with replies and really couldn't answer everyone as fully as I would have liked.
Sorry sarah but my pm facility also is not working either,( I expect it's tired itself out!) so I can't answer you.
This subject was immediately locked by the owner, so obviously a 'no no' subject for open discussion.
As I was given a 'warning' and a threat of having my account removed for talking about English breakfasts on this site, I have to be careful what I say on here.
I did pm many people on here perhaps one of them reading this would be kind enough to relay the warning to you, if their pm facility is working.
I consider this information a serious change in direction for the way women behave whilst in kalkan.
Kalkan has always been one of those places where you can almost completely relax and let go, suffice to say just be a little more wary these days

Nowhere in the world is truly safe for a solo woman and yet many seem to leave their common sense on the plane when they head off on holiday. I would agree that you have to exercise the same judgement you would at home and not take any unnecessary risks. For the want of a couple of quid for a taxi I would always avoid walking around late at night away from the build up areas.
-
Hi,
just wanted to say I received your pm Kim. Also a message to Rat2, I live in Crawley and have not heard anything about the attack on the poor pensioner. Where did you hear about it?
-
Sorry Bas, I can't pm you because my pm isn't working.
Does anyone know how to get the pm facility to work?
-
Lorretta,
Was about mid-Jan 2005. Mugged in street, not sure of area of Crawley, but died later of injuries.
-
Thanks rat2, seem to recall it now. I thought it was a recent crime. Sorry I misunderstood you.
