We will shortly be returning to Kalkan for our 5th visit and thought that we would hire a car this time. Can anyone recommend places to eat that are a short drive from the town? Although we very much enjoy eating in Kalkan, one always gets the feeling that the restaurants have been packaged for visitors and that we are not getting the true Turkish experience. Where do the locals go to eat?

The fish market in Fethiye is worth the drive, great in the day but even better at night, the most wonderful lively atmosphere.

Hi whilst you are in Fethiye you could go to Burger King - loads of locals eat there ;D

Up at Islamlar - Chops and Mahmuts trout farm
Adems restaurant along the Kas road
Yaka park Trout farm near Saklikent - combine it with a day trip to the gorge and Tlos!

If you like your fish, there's a nice wee place on the Kas road just past Kaputas. If you are going into Fethiye, go to the Fish Market, buy your fish and have it cooked by one of the surrounding restaurants.

Agree, Chops at Islamlar or Degremans
But "silver Ali's just outside town on the Kas road opposite Adems place...lovely (also brother of Memhet who has just opened Mussakka in town...the family clearly has a talent for service and food!!) Great Meze and wonderful huge King prawns in Garlic...!!

I would highly recommend Bodamya Tepe restaurant in Islamlar, set in a garden with ducks, geese etc wondering around.
