Title: 7 nights in Kalkan, October - places to visit please
Post by: Harrogate_female on August 26, 2009, 03:59:45 PM
Hello All
This is the best website for Kalkan that Ive found so far!

We - my husband & I (I will be 7months pregnant) and our 2 year old daughter are visiting Kalkan for the first time (7th to 14th October 2009).

I'd love to go canoeing, safari trek, horse riding, scuba diving, paragliding etc but obviously due to pregnancy & small child it will be a more relaxing holiday! ha ha

We are renting a car for the week, as we are staying in Kalamar Bay (access to the Beach club there too), but Id like to do the following, but do not know a) which is the best day to do it (if any) and b)how i go about booking it & how much it costs (i.e. just turn up and pay, book through a travel rep, get tickets at local shop etc). please could you help/ have I got this right?:- would like some sort of six day itinerary if possible:

1. Kalkan Harbour & pebble beach (free i presume)
2. Kaputas Beach (anything near by to go see?) - 10 mins by car?
3. Patara Beach & Patara Ampitheatre, Port of Patara, Letoon? - 15 mins by car? where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
4. Children's farm & picnic (see the animals) - somewhere in the Taurus mountains?? where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
5. Trout Farm - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
6. Mud bath (Dalyan?) - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
7. Turkish Bath - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
8. Saklikent Gorge - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
9. Lycian Tombs - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
10. Gullet boat trip - where is this, how much is it, how do i book?
Any other must see things???

is there anywhere i could find a cartoon type map that has drawings/ pictures of the points of interest in and near Kalkan?

also Id like to know where the nearest supermarket and place to exchange money is near Kalamar Hotel, Kalamar Bay?

and finally, any really authentic, traditional Turkish restaurants that arent too expensive that you could recommend?

thanks so much, im really excited.

appreciate all the local knowledge you have!!

THANK YOU

Hi, I would suggest that you also put your "places" in the search bar as there is a lot of info on the site in different places. This would give you a variety of views and ideas. Hope this is helpful

1. Yes its free
2. On the way to Kas..both in one day
3. You dont book just come..admission 5 lira per person. Letoon is further away seperate admission charge
4. Sorry dont know
5. Lots up at Islamlar..village above Kalkan about 10 mins
6. Drive to dalyan take a boat trip..its en-route, no need to book.
7. Some in Kalkan...ask when you come
8. 30/40 mins from Kalkan, no need to book
9. There are lots everywhere...do you want to see specifc ones??
10. Ask when you come, easy to arrange.
 No idea about map
You can change money nearly everywhere
Nearly all the restaurants in Kalkan offer excellent turkish cuisine..word of mouth when you get here is always good.
Canoeing is an excellent fun day, jeep safaris are good, paragliding is available at kas and oludeniz, horse riding available for all ages in patara and all of these can be found using the search engine and typing in relevant activities..
have fun!

Bear in mind that Kaputas Beach is at the bottom of a lot of steps.  You may not feel up for that.

Going back through my pics from my visit to Kalkan in 2007 can anyone confirm that this is Kaputas taken from the sea?

PHOTO:Kaputas? (http://i35.tinypic.com/sblkl4.jpg)

That was a day out with several ports of call and I haven't labelled them, but I love that shot because it has several of my favourite ingredients in it: blue, blue sea, staggering mountain backdrop, sunshine, beach, gorgeous wooden gulet  *Deep sigh*. Roll on 2010....
