Title: Not going to Kalkan
Post by: The Engineer on August 24, 2009, 08:50:26 AM
Managed to get next week off hooray!!! start looking for flights and ring the agent to blank off the week at our apartment only to find it is booked for the week we want it.
Shoch horror now what!!! Start looking for somewhere else to go. Found a place called Parga in Greece on the main land and book it. Has any of the well travelled EK members been there? Whats it like?
It feels really uncomfortable not going to Kalkan or even Turkey.

Parga is a small fairly quiet fishing harbour.Very like Kalkan in size & atmosphere.Decent restaurants around harbour but not up to Kalkan standards.A lot of the accom. is a good walk from town, and the main beach is a good hilly walk.Overall we enjoyed our holiday there.but have not returned,as we have to Kalkan many times.

We've been to Parga and really liked it. As Johnjen says, it's not too dissimilar to Kalkan - in fact we chose Kalkan the first time because it reminded me of Parga.
I think if you type "Parga" into the search facility, you'll get some other members views

I love Parga, and have always promised myself a trip back ...not made it yet.Beautiful beach, and a lovrly Castle which is worth a visit for the view from the top of the hill.
Not quite Kalkan but you will like it I'm sure.Have a great time !!Chrissie

We were in parga for 2 nights last year as a stop on a sailing holiday. It's very pretty but we did get a lot of mosi bites there! There is a welcome cafe at the top of the hill near the castle where you can get a good milkshake and sit and look out over the bay. Lively in the evenings near the front. Didn't use the beach but it looked fine. Have a great time :) ... have added a photo of Parga Bay viwed thru the trees from the Castle Cafe terrace in the photo gallery (Anything Else section) - just to whet your appetite!
