Hi we have just come back from Kalkan (our first time) It was great and we all enjoyed it, does anybody know of a similar place in the world we could try, with the same sort of things that Kalkan offers.
Cheers Tracy.

Yes - but I ain't telling!! :D
-
Benidorm..oh sorry I was thinking of next year >:D >:D >:D
-
no place exists ;)
-
Oh yes it does ;)

I haven't been to anywhere that's quite like Kalkan, it has it's very own sort of charm and the local people make it such a friendly, special place to visit. Having said that our next favourite place is the Greek island of Kefalonia, it has breathtaking views, fabulous romantic little restauants, quiet beaches and like Kalkan no nightclubs, naff theme pubs or rowdy lager louts. It's wonderful there but even so Kalkan still wins hands down!

Kefalonia?.... it also has the Euro!! :o :o
-
Its all Greek to me :D :D

Woody, try Parga in Greece. It's on the mainland. Very similar to Kalkan, but not quite as friendly in my opinion - beautiful beach though. It's in Eurozone, so would probably be a bit more expensive than Kalkan. Croatia is meant to be good.
We love Kalkan, so a return trip would be my preferred option ;)

I've also been to Parga in Greece and it's a lovely setting but didn't find the people particularly charming or friendly. Molyvos on the Greek island of Lesvos is another very nice town with the right level of commercialism and has plenty of choice. Lindos in Rhodes is another lovely place but I think has now been spoilt by very loud bars.

My OH thinks the location Mama Mia was filmed has to be...I've told her it was a stage with back drop at Pinewood Studios ;) ;)

Kalkan is virtually unique. However an alternative might be Ortakent, about 20 minutes outside Bodrum. Small, friendly people and modest hotels almost on the beach.
Not the same BUT an alterative! Oh, and it's not expensive to eat out.
-
Heard that Turkbuku near Bodrum has a stylish marina - anyone been? Can't google much info.
-
been to Bitez and Yalikavak and Turgutreis some years ago..nice places even then developers were at work so what it's like now who knows?
But still Kalkan has it for me with it's views and mountain backdrop....albeit peppered with buildings...wish i was back!! ;)

Dalyan is a bit like Kalkan,in the sense that its mainly a eating place, not the same village centre, but with it being on the river instead of the sea its just that bit different, you can eat right on the waters edge with large turtles a couple of feet away.
dalyan is very flat,so easy to get about, you can rent a boat and go and explore the river, rock tombs ect.to get to the beach, which is a good beach that turtles nest on you need to get a boat to take you through the reed beds, all good fun.
-
We found at Dalyan we were the eating place..we got munched alive by mozzies off the river... :o
-
I know what you mean Mr Lizard, with Dalyan being on the river you do get
mozzies, but when I was there it wasnt much of a problem, the Efes must have repelled em ! ;D

Turkbuku has been featured very recently in a magazine or newspaper article that I've read. It looked lovely...but can't for the life of me remember where I read about it...sorry!
