Title: Kalklan regulars report
Post by: Kalkankiwi on July 14, 2009, 09:04:20 PM
We are always interested in what our guests thought of Kalkan when renting our apartment and the following is an extract from feedback received from a couple who have been holidaying in Kalkan on a regular basis over the years and have just returned from a fortnight in Kalkan:

"We ate out most nights and our favorite restaurants were:

1 Olive Garden - excellent food, very friendly, good prices, great value!
2 Fish Terrace - terrific sea food
3 Villa Mahal - Wonderful situation, very handy and the prices are in line with other good Kalkan restaurants. (We were somewhat put off because they tried to charge us 78 lira for a lunch that was actually 40 lira. They charged us for a bottle of wine instead of a glass, and charged us higher prices than the menu for both main courses. When we pointed out the errors there was barely an apology so we cancelled the bar-b-q we had booked for the Friday. We did have dinner one night at the edge of the sea, very romantic.)
4 Alternative
5 Doyum
6 Ibo
7 Aubergine (not as good as 2 years ago and they also charged for a bottle of wine instead of a glass)
8 Salt & Pepper
9 Ali Baba (must have been the chefs night off the casserole came with a 2 inch layer of cheese on top with almost nothing underneath.)

We preferred the shops in Cas to Kalkan as they were more Turkish and prices seemed better.

We loved our trip to the mountains, great views and exciting roads! Saklikent Gorge was an adventure, fast flowing cold water up to our waists in places but wemanaged the 2 Kms and the gorge was truely awesome! A guide helped us most of the way and he fully deserved his tip.

We went on a boat trip (Romantic 1) round the local bays and Mouse Island which was worth while with plenty swimming stops and a good lunch but we thought it could have been better if the crew had given us some information about the places we passed."

Disappointed that their holiday was spoilt not once, but twice by restaurants trying to over charge. Also interesting comments on preference for shopping in Kas rather than Kalkan.

We are out in Kalkan for our summer fortnight next week and looking forward to the sun and the excellent restaurants that Kalkan has to offer but we will be keeping a close eye on the restaurant bills! We will of course offer our own feedback on the restaurants, especially some of the newer ones that have had some good reviews on this forum.

Thanks for sharing that report with us.
Reading the Holiday Reports, "warts and all" is the section that I alway enjoy.
I hope more people will give us their views this year, and introduce themselves.

We were overcharged once at Trio in July, 5 beers instead of 3 beers, marked as 4 beers but with 30 in the price column (6 lira a time!). I had a feeling the bill would be wrong for the beers as they had to be reasked to bring 2 of the beers as they hadn't appeared.

We were undercharged twice in other restaurants (we did tell them).
