going to kalkan in week time , what is the exchange rate at the moment ? thanks
-
The official bank exchange rate is currently fluctuating between 2.5 and 2.6 YTL to the Pound. The various shops around Kalkan that offer a currency exchange service are offering around 2.45 - not bad. It''s always worth checking out the PTT as their rates have consistently been good over the years.
-
thanks , do the banks charge you any commission ?
-
Have never changed money in the banks but would imagine that they''d charge a commission as does the PTT. After deducting commission this normally works out to be the same rate as local shops are offering. By the way you''d need to take your passport if exchanging in the banks.
-
Do most people thinks it''s better to wait until you get to Kalkan to exchange sterling? And, if so, where? This may sound ignorant but what is the PTT? Which of the shops change currency? The rate at the post office here today was 2.4980 = no commission - how does that compare?
The rate is far better this year - have prices increased in Kalkan generally?
So many questions - so little time!!!!
-
I always change sterling at the PTT and have never been aware that I''ve been charged commission ???
-
The PTT always give a good rate with just a small commission deducted - shops vary greatly - and if you go into some banks, if they are busy you could spend your whole holiday waiting ;D

Issy, the PTT is the post office.
-
Changed money in the bank yesterday, 2.5 lira to the pound, slightly down on Monday''s rate. No commission charged.
-
Why would you want to wait to change money!! Just get the same rate if not better in the shops!!!

Was in the bank for less than 5 minutes. It''s about 100 meters from our apartment, beautifully airconditioned and has comfy seats. It would have taken longer to go into town and would have needed some Efes to recover from the walk. You do need to avoid Mondays if you don''t want to queue.
