Title: Dalaman - Kalkan
Post by: alshepuk on June 18, 2009, 01:20:03 PM
Is the new road into Kalkan open yet?  When we were there last it was still under construction.  Can someone please how long roughly the journey time is from airport into Kalkan?

The people who we are renting our villa from have arranged our transfer from the airport.  Is it normal practice to tip the driver on top of the cost of the transfer (£55).

Yes the road is open and some lovely views over Kalamar as you approach kalkan - 1 hour 40 minutes seems to be time now.

I dont tip our drivers and I dont expect our guests to either..!!!

Enjoy yourself!  :D

All our friends who come here tip the driver when they have a transfer. I always tip the driver too and I have several transfers a year as I live here. I work on the basis that I always tip cab drivers back in the UK and this is a similar transaction.

If you feel you have been driven well, the driver has helped you with your luggage and was friendly, a tip is an ideal way to show your appreciation.

The drivers are not on high wages and a tip is  a very welcome supplement to their income.

Some people we know tip £5 each way, some £10. Whatever the amount, the fact that the passengers have shown their thanks in this way and the driver has had a small boost to his earnings brings smiles all round.

We always tip the drivers 10YTL each way and reccomend that our guests do also. We use ADDA and although they speak little English they are always plesant and smart and help with luggage. £55 is about the going rate for a transfer and as Lantana pointed out they are probably paid very little. I always tip for good service having worked in the service indusry my self many moons ago.

We always tip the driver in Turkish lira too - but pay him for the transfer in sterling. We always make a point of making sure the driver knows the money is for him, in spite of our poor Turkish, and not the be handed over with the transfer fee.
