Title: Good dentist in Kalkan
Post by: MouMou on June 13, 2009, 09:03:16 AM
Hi All

Just wanted to share my experience with members and guests, re finding a good dentist in Kalkan.

About 2 weeks ago I had the misfortune to break a tooth (false one screwed into jaw) while eating a lamb wrap (which was stale, hence the broken tooth, but that''s another issue).  Horrified as it was a front tooth, I contemplated booking a flight back to the UK, and making an appointment with my old dentist, as a private patient and having the tooth replaced.  I decided against this after working out it would cost nearly a grand (with flights, transfers and the dental fees).

I logged onto EK to search for comments/threads about dentists and found a couple of posts 2 good 1 negative, I still felt nervous of making a choice about what to do.  I went to see some good friends who run a resturant on the Kalamar Road who advised me to visit Cenk Sahin above Xpress Cars.

I went down to his office and had a consulation with him, he spoke very good english (another relief, as my turksih is basic, although I did take a translation book with me just in case).  I did not need it.

He looked at my broken tooth, shook his head and told me he would need to make a new one, Cenk told me the price for the full treatment and consultation, and I agreed for the treatment to go ahead.  I went back 2 days later and started the process of having the broken screw removed from my jaw.  I had a new fibreglass post fitted and the new tooth was ready to be cemented in place just 5 days later.  As the area was very sore I took the precaution of buying antibiotics from the pharmacy to ensure all the imflamation would be ok before the new tooth was fitted.  During the treatment I had 3 visits to the dentist, 2 xrays, 2 injections, impressions, adjustments of the new tooth and finally the new tooth was fitted in place yesterday.  All this for less than £100 sterling (not sure if I can quote the exact price here).

I do not have any hesitation in recommending him to anyone who needs treatment either while on holiday or for anyone who lives in Kalkan.  Both myself and my husband now consider him as our local dentist and will cancel our registration in the UK with our dentist of 30 years standing.

If anyone wants to contact me for any further details I will be more than happy to give them email/telephone number.

hey what a good do i will keep a note of that, i am actually after some work being done on my teeth, would be interesting if he could do it cheaper than here. I also find it crazy that you can buy antibiotics over the counter, hope the tooth is ok.

I too have been to Cenk on several occasions for a broken tooth and once for root canal treatment and I can say he has always been really good and very quick. Also, it''s not often you can relax in the dentists chair with the idyllic view of the Mediterranean in front of you and nice background music to sooth your nerves!

This year he has also invested in a teeth whitening machine which is apparently the latest and most effective one on the market. His price for the treatment is about a third of what one would pay in the UK so I''ll be booking in for the treatment as soon as I have time, lets give him our support and get our pearly whites even whiter!

I also can recommend Cenk. Last year I broke a front tooth on Saturday, as we flew out Monday morning. He fitted a crown for around £70. This year, after visiting my NHS dentist who told me there was nothing needing doing, I went to see Cenk with a couple of niggles that had periodically given me trouble. (But not when I went to NHS dentist) He immediately found one buckled filling and the start of a cavity, filled them and charged only 100TL. He will also replace metal crowns with white ones for 150TL. Less if you have a lot.
Not only the nice view and music but also WiFi while you wait for him/anaesthetic to work.

This all sounds really good.  Do you have any idea how much the tooth whitening may be?  Or does anyone have a contact email address for Cenk?

My wife was quoted 450 TL for the tooth whitening - but apparently the treatment can have adverse effects on some people
Best seek independent advice or check the treatment out first ;D

I do believe the treatment in the UK will set you back in the region of £700

My friend had his teeth whitened by Dr Cem on Kalamar Road a few weeks ago and the results were brilliant in every way.

I had extensive work done by a wonderful dentist in the centre of Fetiye, Dr Cagatay Aras, +0252 614 8703, cagatayaras@yahoo.com.  He has perfect Engish.  I paid £2,000 to have fourteen teeth bridged or capped whereas in England 5 years ago I paid £2,000 just to have one tooth capped.  I believe he also specialises in straightening children''s teeth.

Sorry but the Blue nose is for life. As for Tippex don`t like the taste, you would have thought by now that they would have brought out different flavours then, who NOSE.

Butterfly how much did your friend pay for the whitening off Dr Cem?

No RED WINE for a week...no wonder Mr Cenk advised me not to have the whitening done!
Wise man! ;)

I had the tooth whitening done by Dr Cenk.  He was superb and very professional.  It is also a lot cheaper than having it done in the UK.  I was warned however that sometimes you have very unpleasant side-effects with this after the second visit.  My experience was that the side-effects occurred after the first visit and I was totally "spaced out" for about 4 hours after each treatment.  I slept it off and was then fine.  It was a very peculiar sensation and not very pleasant.  However, was really glad I had the treatment done.  The views are spectacular and this makes the whole experience so much better than attending the dentist in the UK.

Hi guys, needing a filling at present and traveling to our place in Kalkan in October I have been watching this thread with great interest :)
I do have one question though ???
Where would you stand with your holiday insurance if things didn''t go to plan and you required some sort of help from a doctor or worse still a hospital due to this treatment?
would they Still cough up  :-[
I know it''s the glass half empty scenario but best go into these things with your eyes open 8)
Having said all this I will be giving them a call to check it out ;)
cheers

We claimed for treatment to mrs Lizard a few years ago for a bite that went nasty(mozzie)..no problems at all..Dr even "Upped" the bill to enable us the excess back ;)  however if it''s only a filling why not just go to your dentist and get it over with here?  ::)

Hi Blue Lizard, it''s more of the principle thing >:(
I have had to change dentists due to my life long extractor going private :(
He offered me great credit terms which tells me its going to be expensive :( so I went and found one that is taking on NHS patients :)
Having enrolled I found my main man to be Polish, this is not a problem in itself but more the fact he found a small problem with a tooth, very unusual for me but hey maybe my old dentist kept quite till he went private to make more money ::) cynical i know but facts of life I feel :(
The other problem is my new dentist cannot do the work for 3 months yet wants full payment up front for the filling, and before he will even make me an appointment, very un-trusting i feel :o
Hence, fed right up with the state of our NHS dentists and would rather have a bit of pain sitting in a chair looking at the Med, oh and the important thing drowning myself in Effes & Raki straight after at the MOONLIGHT BAR! ;D
Ok you got the real reason from me in the end!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

I know how you feel about dentists..i didn''t go for years after one nearly put me through the ceiling!! But having spent Christmas scoffing Nurofen with a mouth that looked like it was full of gobstoppers i trundled off to the dentist my lady lizard uses....He wasn''t cheap but worth everypenny to get shot of pain.He used "magic Cream" which he rubbed on my gums..didn''t feel a thing!didn''t feel injection or tootypeg coming out!!i have been back for check up since and my chompers are now perfect!!Friends who live in Kalkan use Dr Cenk and say he is good................ ;)

I wish I had't such an issue, but I had to find someone to have a root canal treatment (which is about EUR 900 in Salzburg !!!) some of the locals recommended Dr. Ozbek ( assume - Atila Ozbek) and he was really pro and knew what he's doing and made me really feel comfortable and maybe much more crucial did not charge even EUR 200  ;) he was able to speak basic German - not sure about his English skills, but he spent a year in London, I guess.

on the way to Kalamar and opposite side of the local healt clinic, upper floor of the Market, Gule.
