Title: Large supermakets
Post by: jcac on June 10, 2009, 01:56:08 PM
Off to kalkan in 4 weeks :-) can someone please let m,e know where the large supermarkets are (Migros and Carefour ) as we are staying in a villa for 2 weeks with teenagers and need to stock up. Also do these supermarkets have a larger selection of wines than the ones in Kalkan.

The closest Migros is in Kas. Fethiye if you want a selection.

We do a "big" shop in Fethiye on market day - two birds one stone and all that ;)

Long way to go for two birds.  Are their stones fresh?

You may be surprised to find the prices in Fethiye are often the same if not higher than kalkan. This applies particularly to wine prices, significantly higher in migros than the kalkan supermarkets. migros does have some good bargains, but if you are on your hols these wont interest you much, easier to shop in kalkan.

We''ve always found the supermarkets in Fethiye cheaper than Kalkan for things like wine and beer - is this something that you''ve noticed just this year, kalkankiki?

no, wine such as Angora has always been more in migros than in kalkan. its around 13/14 lira in migros as opposed to 9.50 ish here in kalkan. not sure on the beer prices but doubt they vary significantly.

Kalkan is notoriously expensive, the shops in Fethiye and kas are generally cheaper, so are the restaurants and beach clubs don''t charge to sit on a sunbed and use an umbrella and the food and coffees, etc. are cheaper

Hi All,
Prices won''t vary very much. What''s the point in shopping in Fetihye unless you are at the market. It''s an hour away and you are on holidays. Go to the local shops and don''t buy imported goods esp. alcohol. You''ll not starve and you will ENJOY yourselves! Think of the sunbathing, swimming, eating and drinking. You might even get on a boat trip!!!

Remember that the cost of your hire car for the day+40 lira petrol+parking in fethiye will cancel out any saving you may make by shopping in Fethiye. i would avoid towns at any cost in the heat of the summer, come on holiday and relax, dont worry about the price of your wine! Its cheaper in kalkan anyway.

We will be going to the market anyway and tend to stock up on food whilst we''re there. Efes was definitely cheaper in Carefour and we bought Angora and Lal wines last year that were cheaper than Kalkan prices - we know because we made a point of checking. I appreciate it may be different this year - I wont be buying anything in Fethiye if I can get it cheaper in Kalkan!
