Title: istanbul to kalkan via pamukkale coach
Post by: jamie-n-kimbo on June 07, 2009, 11:01:02 AM
Hi,

Does anybody have information about the coach transfers from Istanbul to Kalkan?

We are looking to take the overnight journey and cannot seem to find any information in English!

If you have any recent experience of the journey re timetables, length of journey and cost, tips etc, please let me know?

Many thanks

Jamie

My son and his girlfriend did this trip two years ago. They found they couldn''t pre book from England and had to wait until they got to Istanbul. In the summer the buses were full but there was plenty of choice. I seem to remember the cost was approx. £30 each but I could be wrong on this. It was a very long  journey, one they wouldn''t particularly want to repeat but they said they were comfortable(as could be expected) for coach travel and food was included as were plenty of rest stops. He had experienced a gap year around the world and said that the Turkish bus journey was far superior to many of the others. In Cambodia there were cows and goats on the long distance buses!!

Quite an experience if you do it I think!

The only info I can find on this simply states that the bus leaves Istanbul at 9pm and arrives in Kalkan at 11am after having travelled a distance of 565 miles. It is operated by the Kamil Koç bus company from Istanbul''s mammoth Main Bus Terminal (Büyük Otogar), so perhaps try there for further info.

Hi

Have a look at this site  http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/go/Istanbul/Transport/IstanbulOtogar.html

We went again last year - left Kalkan with Pamukale [ same as Kamilkoc] at 7pm and arrived Istanbul bus station at about 10am - plenty of stops and refreshments on route

Return journey leaves Istanbul at 9pm and arrives Kalkan at noon [ish]

Cost each way was 70 TL - maybe a little more with inflation

Remember men cannot sit next to women unless they are married -  ;D

Yes they did travel overnight, and kept being woken up for rest stops and food so didn''t get that much sleep! It took about 13 hours .

Might I suggest they fly?  you can get flights from as little as 69 ytl + tax so maybe 109ytl on Turkish Airlines if you book in advance.  It takes 1hr10m.  http://www.thy.com/en-INT/

I found the coach journey uncomfortable as the seats are not ergonomically designed and they would be better off taking cushions if they decide on that method of transport.
