Title: Cappadocia
Post by: claire on April 28, 2009, 09:32:37 PM
Hi All,

I''ve seen pics of this place on the internet and it looks amazing, only problem is it looks like it''s a LONG way from Kalkan.  Has anyone ever been?

Thanks, Claire.

Claire,
If you look further down this section you will see that some of our members have visited Cappadocia, some of them twice. There are links that show great pictures that they took on their trip. It looks fantastic.

Thanks joanH - very jealous now!!

What''s the advice on the best way of getting there from Kalkan as there don''t seem to be any specific excursions..?

Thanks, Claire.

You can drive yourself Claire - we did last year!  It will take about 12 hours to drive - is an easy drive but quite boring!

I hope that helps!

Cheers!

Thanks Felicity.  Bit of a trek considering my husband doesn''t drive!  Will give it a miss this time I think!

Cheers, Claire.

Hi Claire,
Luckily for me, my in laws live in this area so I can easily go over there when we visit them.  To be honest, I wouldn''t even consider trying to do this in a two week first time in Kalkan holiday.  You really need 2-3 days here to get a feel for it and it is such a long way.  It is such a huge area and before I went there I imagined it was just a place of interest when infact it is actually a region and huge!  As regards where to stay, Goreme definetly.  There are a few places but the nightlife and general feel of Goreme is much more sophisticated.   If you are really keen on visiting this part of Turkey then you can easily Easy Jet it to Istanbul and catch a connecting flight to Nevsehir  (1 hour) which is the newish airport serving the area for a lovely 3-4 day short holiday.  I wouldn''t say the drive was boring though as previously suggested, it is a very interesting journey by road which we take every year from Antalya airport but basically not necessary - save it for another type of holiday.  Hope that helps.
