Post by: Enjoy Kalkan on March 07, 2009, 08:59:17 AM
Hi Everyone,

I thought it would be nice to have a thread for "why Kalkan is special to me" I was thinking no more than a paragraph and the best ones could be used as quotes on the main website.

Look forward to hearing why Kalkan is special to you........

Bang on Mr Lizard, Ive been to Kalkan seven times in the last three years(two more to come this year)and I have never been on a trip,in fact Ive never been out of Kalkan ! yes , I know a lot of you will be thinking i should get out and see things, but I dont feel the need to,yet, once I am in Kalkan I switch off, relax and forget every thing back home,I have some good friends in kalkan and like relaxing with them and every day I meet more friends, love it and one day I might get round to seeing more of the area, but not just yet.
Its a great feeling when you get to Kalkan and walk down to the old town and all the people you met on your last visit, wave and welcome you back, and they remember your name,I think you can tell, the Kalkan "bug" has its teeth firmly in my backside.
Kalkan has a magic,I dont know what it is,but it has.

I''ve been thinking about this - what is it about Kalkan that has led to us booking again for this year for our third visit?  We''ve never gone back to the same place twice before, despite having been to some incredible places.   So, it''s the setting - the village nestling at the foot of the mountains against the incredible clear, sparkling sea; the winding maze of streets leading down to the harbour, filled with friendly, relaxed, happy, smiling people; the oustanding restaurants with brilliant service; the genuine warm hospitality of the Turkish people; that there are no large tour operator-run hotels; that it''s not ''cheap and cheerful'' - but boy, how cheerful we are when we''re there; that you get what you pay for; that it is simply beautiful.  Don''t know if I can wait until September...

We have at least one holiday in Kalkan every year and are fortunate to be able to have other holidays ( well for the time being!!). I have absolutely no idea why, but as soon as Kalkan is booked I practically wish my life away on a daily basis to get me in the taxi to the airport. Whilst I look forward to the other holidays they do not have the sparkle that Kalkan has, it is irreplaceable and if I could bottle its charm and magic I could sell it worldwide and make enough money to buy a villa there.

It''s special for us because we had our honeymoon there and, despite us having agreed before we were married that we would never go back to the same place twice, after the honeymoon we were hooked -  we have been back every year since!

It''s that initial view, when you come over the brow of the hill as you arrive - as soon as we see that, we both let out an audible sigh. Same every time!
