Post by: kim21 on January 27, 2009, 03:21:01 PM
Our very friendly neighbor has just been round to tell us that the belidiye has just announced over the loudspeaker system that because of the low air pressure a very big storm is immanent in the kalkan area.
Anyone here at present be prepared

I believe from Fethyie Times that it has already caused property damage west of Kalkan.

I would think the greenhouses in Yeslkoy were probably damaged by last weekends high winds. Winds are now picking up again as another storm brews.

Hi KD - remember too that you can also take a look at the Kalkan webcam which shows the weather very well - for an instant update... www.turkishlocalnews.com  ;) ;)

I just took a look now and the weather doesnt look like it is raining yet (the only thing the webcam cant pick up is the wind..!!) although I''m intrigued by the bit ship that looks like an oil tanker in the bay...does anybody know what that is...????  ??? ???

I''ll try to keep you posted KD, roughly where is your villa, mine''s near bus station. Felicity, the ship is the BORA GENÇ registered in Istanbul and is cargo, not tanker, but looks similar. She''s obviously sheltering from the impending storm.

Ship Type: Cargo
Length x Breadth: 65m X 9m
Speed recorded (Max / Average): 8.3 / 7.3 knots

Actually the Turkish Met Service, http://www.meteoroloji.gov.tr/2006/english/eng-seawind.aspx?bolge=all is showing that the worst winds for this area have passed (early this morning). The site is usually fairly reliable - I use it for windsurfing.

Hi Felicity / rat 2,

Flelicity.....Thanks for the update.....Yes I always look at "TheFeds" webcam, which is really good, but you hit the nail on the head, because it is now not LIVE it does not have sound ( like it did before ) and although seeing is great, its that much better if you can hear the weather ! !  If you know what I mean !

rat 2........Our villa is in Kalamar Bay, only finished last June, so we are still "Kalkan villa owner virgins" as far as weather/storms go etc etc.....people we have meet who live in Kakan have told us that the big storms can be spectaular ( sorry if that comment upsets anyone who as had damage caused by storms ) so I am very interested to know how things are going regarding this

Regards KD.

well yesterday''''s storm amounted to little more than a damp squib, with a moderately windy night, hardly something the general public needed to be warned about,
No storm warning from the Belidiye today, strangely right now we have horizontal rain beating against our windows and spectacular thunder and lightening lighting up the bay
