Title: shipping queries........
Post by: gooner63 on January 25, 2009, 05:57:12 PM
Thanks to all of you who replied.

We now have some further queries :)

1) If we are under retirement age, it seems necessary to have a work permit & visa to ship our household goods
2) Also, there is mention of requiring a bank guarantee letter, we assume this means customs work out a percentage of what our goods are worth then this money has to stay in the bank untouched until we eventually leave the country.

Has anyone come across these problems ? Are any of you below retirement age that may have encountered the above ? or are we worrying unnecessarily ?

Look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards
Mark & Imelda

You do need a residence visa, you do not need a work permit.  That bank guarantee letter is only in theory, in reality it is about impossible to get.  We had to pay customs and will not see the money ever again.  Moreover, the customs notified us that we must fax to them each year a copy of our current, valid residence permit without which we must immediately reexport our belongings.
