Not sure where to start really. We arrived on 6th October and left on 17th..In all that time we did not see any packs of dogs pulling unsuspecting tourists to the ground,no fights between taxi drivers, not even greeters twisting the arms of diners and dragging them into their restaurants.Perhaps we were in the wrong Kalkan. What we did have was a lovely holiday, great food, great hotel, the Lizo (thanks Ali and Sarah) great weather and lovely hospitable people.Kalkan has become more expensive but so has everywhere. We ate very well at the hotel and at cafe Vita,Oz Adana,Merkaz, tomato etc.We just avoided the more expensive places. The one thing that ,in my opinion, they have to be careful of is overdeveloping. The old town is the same but the hillsides are starting to look a bit crowded. We had a lovely time just chilling out,got the dolmus to Kas a couple of times, visited the market, and went over to Meis, which was beautiful. The only thing that cheesed me off was that the conversion rate was 2.27 when we arrived but was 2.67 on our last day!! God willing we will be back next May. Liz and John.

Hi John,
thanks for taking the time to post your holiday report. Glad you had such a lovely holiday.

John
Glad to hear that you really enjoyed your stay and that you took much of what you gleaned from this site with a sizeable pinch of salt, and came to your own opinions. Rest assured, there is only one Kalkan and I think we all really love it, sometimes deep deep down.

We all know what John has posted is nothing but a true picture of Kalkan, and is not like what a lot of people on this forum wish to paint.....Yes we all know that Kalkan is not perfect, but come on, its not bad, is it ! ! !

Can I respectfully amend your posts to read "......and is not like a FEW people........"

Sorry........" the few wish to paint "

I can echo everything Johnl has said, we returned from another trip to Kalkan this week having had a lovely time, it''s still a fantastic resort with a lot going for it. We never felt ripped off, the people were welcoming as ever and no packs of dogs. What''s the problem?
I was beginning to feel quite depressed by the negativity of a few of the postings on this site. I really believe it''s a case of ''familiarilty breeds contempt'', either from an unrepresentative minority of jaded ex pats or people that probably need to start going on holiday somewhere else.

We''re also not long back from our second holiday to Kalkan. We fell in love with the place on our first visit in May/June this year, and on our return immediately booked to go back - something we''ve never done before. What a fab place - folk remembered us with genuine warmth. My OH got 3 shirts handmade by Ramazan - what a lovely man he is. Coast became our second home. The dogs were fine - how lovely is Tango the swimming golden retriever! Kalkan isn''t perfect - but it''s not far off. It''s not cheap, but it is great value for money. We''re contemplating yet another visit next year... we need something to look forward to as winter fast approaches!
