Title: Kalkan with a baby!
Post by: em_s on October 01, 2008, 02:40:13 PM
Hi,

We are visiting Kalkan for the first time at the end of October with our 7 month old baby. Can anyone give advice on what baby ''groceries'' are available in the local supermarkets such as disposable nappies, food jars, formula, wipes etc so I know how much to pack!

Thanks! ::)

You can buy anything here not sure about the price wouldn''t think any more expensive than U.K.

You will need to take swim nappies as when I last looked you couldn''t get them in Kalkan.

Hi, can speak from experience, we first came to Kalkan when our daughter was 5 months old. I will be as brief as possible and hopefully be of some help. Our girl is now 2, so disregard anything that does not apply to you situation.

You can get nappies here, Huggies are expensive but the local Turkish nappies Evy Baby,Peado,Molfix will do the job. Have not seen Little Swimmers in Kalkan but they have them in Kas. (to cold for the pool anyway)
Baby food, choice is limited. Mostly Turkish brands. This also applies to baby milk. Would recommend you bring out 1-2 tubs of what your already giving your child.
Bring out all your own Calpol, creams, Bonjela, ointments, etc. You will not get that stuff here.
I assume you will not be bringing your steriliser, so Milton tablets/liquid is a must. You cannot trust the water quality.
Baby wipes are available, tend to be perfumed. So again bring whatever your baby is using know.
Would recommend getting a travel baby bath, other wise you will be showering your child. (or putting it into a big jacuzzi). Again this way you can be sure of water quality. If your using a baby shampoo, bring it.
Travel baby cot would be good, otherwise you sleeping together. ( you will probably be charged to rent one here)
Cannot think of anything else.
Basically our girl had a case of her own.
All the best.

The sea is lovely & warm at that time of year, perfect for a dip!
