Today you get 2.1ytl to a pound, now things in kalkan really are expensive

I suppose the 2.1 rate was the usual places? You may be interested to note what the touriest rate in Bromley, Kent was today at one enterprising money-changer!   1.9400.   Maybe 2.1 doesn''t look so bad now?   lol

I didn''t notice any tourists offering to compensate Turkish businesses when the lira crashed. Why on earth should Turkish companies prop up the ailing pound?

Interestingly Turkish interest rates haven''t come down, the banks are still paying 18%
Do we have a strong lira here or an ailing pound, or is it a bit of both?

i think that while the pound is struggling people will not be dining out so much..we tend to eat in a lot anyway,we buy our wine/beer from the supermarkets and tend to go out later. if more people did this it could have a knock on effect..the restaurants are already struggling for custom with so much competition

I''m off to France next week for a few days and then back to Kalkan beginning of October. Beginning to think I''m going to struggle with the poor pound rate  :(

An expensive time indeed but not often I get the chance to watch my local team play in Europe ::) no doubt we''ll be out at the first hurdle but looking forward to the trip.

Obviously Kalkan businesses can do as they please and are under no obligation to lower prices to compensate for the weak pound. However they may have to if they want to stay in business as they rely almost entirely on British tourists for their income. Lets face it prices are high in Kalkan because until now UK holidaymakers have been prepared to pay them. Judging by the slow trade that has been witnessed recently this may no longer be the case.

We just got back this morning after a week in beautiful scorching hot Kalkan and did notice a tremendous difference in prices. For the first time we were careful what we ordered to keep the bill down to a decent level. On the plus side the food was as wonderful as ever.

Sorry Neil you are going to have to remind me where that is as I am a Moonlight girl (well older woman!!!) All the bars seemed to be open and fairly busy.

It used to be the Ice/sultan bar,opposite belgins kitchen and just before the old trading house.
