Can anyone tell me how lively Kalkan is over Xmas/New Year period? We''re looking to spend our first New Year in our apartment!!! Also any idea on flights? Only flight being advertised at the moment is an Onur Air flight.....just hoping Easyjet will fly to Dalaman over the winter period - flights not released until about Oct.
-
We,re flying Thomas Cook on the 29th from Manchester.
-
Hi Dawn
We too are flying with Thomas Cook on 22 December from Gatwick. Haven''t been at Christmas before, so will be reading other postings with interest.
-
Thanks BevJam, need to fly out from one of the London airports though...... funny enough you''re ears must have been burning at the weekend, as my neighbour in Kalkan ~(jacki) was staying with me and she was the one who suggested the New Year trip....
-
Thanks Jinfizz, will look at Thomas Cook,
-
Yes we were chatting about it when we were over there in July. I believe it''s really lively and am hoping to get some walking done while we''re there. Good luck with the flights

Hi Dawn,
If you go to page 4 of the Restaurant Section, there are a couple of threads about restaurants and what Kalkan is like out of season that maybe of interest.

Hey Dawn, I found mon 29th - Mon Jan 5th from gatwick £253 - Thomas Cook... I can do that :)
Bev what dates are you there? I definately want to go walking too, I am sure M&M will be leading the pack somewhere.... I still need to be ''led'' by the pro''s ;D
-
Hi Jackie we''re out from the 29th to the 5th as well. Not much flexibility on dates that time of year. Well lets see if we can organise a walk somewhere ......but not new years eve or day, will be recovering from the revelling!! See you there, with photos of the wedding no doubt, I''ll be boring for britain
Cheers

Why don''t you post an EnjoyKalkan Festive Season Meet-up" invitation?

will be spending our 3rd christmas and new year this year. we are flying out with thomas cook on 22nd and returning with onour air on jan 3rd. spoke to easyjet in may and was advises that the winter timetable would be released in july/august so it does not look promising that they will be flying this winter.
christmas is just a normal day for the locals but they do celebrate new year with fireworks etc. we have seen the last two in at sofra, its lovely and cosy as it is shut in and they have a log fire burning.
the real plus of being out there at that time is that there are no queue''s at the supermarkets!
-
You will definitely enjoy Xmas and New Year here in Kalkan. We will be having our fourth one here, and each year seems to get busier. You may have to book into your favourite restaurant for Xmas lunch (if it''s open)
There will be walks at this time of year. Look forward to seeing you then.

Hi Dawn
We spent Christmas 2006 & new year into 2007...funnily enough when we purchased our apartment..we used the time to furnish it etc...with regards to atmosphere...as others have said, relavitvely quiet at Xmas but New Years is a celebration..as Ian, we spent 2996/7 new years eve in Sofras, it was f=great and have made some good friends from it...our photos are still in the reception to the restaurant...
There are a few places open...during the day it is "spring" like weather but we found it quite cold at night - it dropped quite a bit..thanks heaven we brought out duvet out (and our air conditioning had been fitted - and works as heating too!!)
do it..its great fun, we will be out not this year but next
-
Hi I was out for new year a couple of years ago although it was very quite it was a really nice break spent new years eve at Aubergine food of course excellent and open log fire!!
-
Thanks Everyone, looks like our New Year is sorted!!!! Jacki you''d better book your flights!!!!
-
hi kuzu
how come you have been the same place as us twice at new year and we have not mett? our pictures are also at reception as well! see you this year?
-
Hi im flying out on the 27th on the onur air flight with a friend and we will be staying with my grandparents who have been going for the last couple of new years. They spend their new year at sophras but be careful of the stairs there as my nan once had a few and fell down the stairs there (oops!) Not sure where me and my friend will be spending ours yet. The prices of the flights are going up quickly so if your interested in going i would book asap. x
-
thank you kalkanlover22 for telling all in EK that i like a drink! i don''t think i was drunk it was just that ian did not catch me in time! (took out all the candles on the way down though)! back to kalkan tomorrow for eight weeks!
-
No problem ian b. Im sure you will forgive me as i am your loving grandaughter! I think everyone will be jealous of you going for 8 weeks! i will see you in 12 days :) x
-
OK all you Christmas & New Year in Kalkan regulars, where is best to go?
-
Any suggestions gratefully received as we would like to go somewhere with some atmosphere. Having been abandoned by our children, (hahaha), we would like some company as we could have stayed at home, sitting looking at each other.
Looking forward to hearing from you please. ::)

I really, really want to get out for xmas and the New Year but am having trouble persuading hubby. Can''t very wll desert him - any ideas how I can change his mind?
I hate Xmas and New Year here. ???
-
book the tickets and present them to him as his (early) Christmas present :o would be difficult for him to not accept such a lovely thoughtful gift :D
-
Meet him half way and do what we''re doing. Stay at home for Christmas and go to Kalkan for the New Year, problem solved!
-
I was there last Xmas and stayed to see in the new year for 2008. I was surprised to see how busy it was. It was fantastic, especially new year. The place to go on new year''s eve is definitely down to the harbour as all the restaurants open up. Aubergine was open and spilling out table and chairs onto the road. Trio and a few others along there were also open. The indoor fireplaces were all lit with log fires and for those that were sat outside fires had been in lit in makeshift containers i.e wheelbarrows! It was a great atmosphere and the fireworks were a terrific way to bring in the new year.
If you feel like spending Xmas there and want a few xmas decorations, then you needn''t worry about going without cos you can buy anything you want at the Carrefour supermarket in Fethiye. I borrowed a conifer tree in a pot from a friend and decorated that to the amazment of my son when he arrived on Xmas eve!
For any of you still undecided about going - I highly recommend it. Lots of bars and restaurants open, and smiling faces. Makes a lovely change from the harassed shopping frenzy we have in the UK!!

We were also there last year and had a lovely time.
No need to go all the way to Fethyie to get those decorations, they had them in the supermarkets in Kas.
Great atmosphere as already stated, everyone getting into the spirit of things without all the stress as here. We did in fact enjoy our almost traditional Christmas meal in the evening having spent the day out & about, then got the fire going in the house, poured the wine & chilled. We did have really fantastic weather which of course was a bonus, but for anyone really wanting to try it - go for it - see Kalkan & surrounding areas at a different time of year & enjoy a Kalkan Christmas most relaxing.
