Title: Banking your dosh
Post by: Maddy on August 17, 2008, 05:16:44 PM
Hi, thinking of leaving the dreaded UK damp and dismal shores, maybe coming to rent 6/8 months a year or taking an apartment for a year and sort of commuting.

Anyone got any info on banking in Kalkan/Turkey. Can you have an account there, whats the interest like, and is it easy to get your money out or transfer back to the UK with the tax situation here.

thanks
Maddy

Hi Maddy

Very easy to open a bank account here, you just need a tax number which is issued in Kas. takes a couple of hours to get the number, about 24 hours to set up a bank account.

Interest rates very competitive. Garanti bank probably has the best English language website and a special  expat banking service find out more at  http://www.garantibank.com/banking/retail.html

No problem taking money out of Turkey when you leave, no problem transferring funds from UK to here.
