Title: Patara Market
Post by: mikel on July 15, 2008, 06:43:21 PM
We are going to Kalkan for the first time in August for our wedding anniversary and I am trying to put together an itinerary.

My guide says that the beach/ruins pass at Patara costs  E8 (approx) and is valid for a week.  As we are probably going to spend more than one day there, I wondered if it had a market and if so, which day.

Any recommendations for lunch there?

Thanks

Can''t help with the market (vague recollection is that it was a Thursday, but don''t take my word for this) Try the Tlos for lunch if it''s open. Very simple setting but great food and Osman who runs it is lovely.

The pass for the ruins/beach is now 2 lira per person per day. There is no weekly market in Patara. Patara village has less than a dozen restaurants in the village centre but there are a number of small pansiyons with restaurants attached all around the village. All the restaurants have good food and offer very good value for money.

You would be better going to Kinik market which is held on a Friday - very big and bustling with all sorts on sale including fish and livestock and being very Turkish = very cheap

Definately try Tlos - Osman and his wife are very hospitable and the food is excellent. Even if it looks closed when you arrive your food will be freshly cooked immedaitley.

as previous posters have said Tlos is excellent food...his new restaurant is on the left as you go into the village from the main road at the top(beach road) he looks very dapper in his new chefs whites...another basic but good one is "Aspendos"good wholesome food at nice prices..(the man is Osmans brother from Tlos)  there is now a beach service to the village and in the village center you can get a kalkan bus..but check the times ;)last one is about 6.pm i think
