Title: April or October
Post by: popps on July 04, 2008, 05:36:14 PM
Hi all,

I''m considering returning to Kalkan either this October or next April (school holidays). Can anyone tell me what weather to expect during these two months. On past visits we''ve stayed end of May/begiinning of June. My wife doesn''t like the intense heat but I''m not fond of the cold and wet. I''m tending to plump for October (holiday money and annual leave permitting).

Yes Holidayfever your right about the sea; curiously though I always find the pool too cold at that time of year. Weird. Maybe I''m a wimp! lol      Bill

I was in Kalkan at the end of October 2 years ago and the weather was perfect in the day time and slightly chilly at night.

With either April or October - you have to be prepared for bad/inclement weather...difficult to say what is the best time - having experienced both - I like both - but the sea IS like a hot tub in October and pools and sea deffo TOO cold in April...!!

Enjoy!

Well Popps,
In April you''ll see Turkey dressed in all its spring finery! The blossom on the cherry trees, the scent of the orange blossom as you brush past it, the green fields and kid goats jumping about in the warm sunshine; all wonderful memories. You will also find that because there are less tourists, you can view sites more easily and get better bargains in the markets and shops.

I was in Kalkan in April this year and found the temperature to be absolutely perfect, strong enough to easily get a tan without burning, but very comfortable. Admittedly, I personallly think it''s too cold for a swim in either the pool or sea, but then mad younger members of my family have done so and loved it!

You will find that a lot of the restaurants are still not open as they are finishing off their spring cleaning and decorating in readiness for the new season. But again, this is a time that you can really get to know the owners and staff as they have lots more time to chat with you, inviting you in for a drink. However, it seems each year there are bars and restaurants which open early or have stayed open during the year as kalkan''s resident population grows.

One other note about the weather, this year in April I had 10 days of sunshine and no rain. Always when I am in Kalkan in October, I get rain and some of it very heavy and lasting a few days sometimes!

But whatever the weather or the time of year, it doesn''t really matter cos I just love being there!
Good luck with your wonderful dilemna!
Rosie

I''d love to visit from April to October but alas my holiday entitlement won''t allow it! Thanks to all for the info.
